Poetry. For the last ten years, these two self-proclaimed idiots have been hosting a weekly reading series, peddling poetry at the Ugly Mug Cafe in Orange. These hosts, Ben Trigg and Steve Ramirez, have gathered poems from a selection of poets who have, at some point the past decade, made the trek from coordinates across the country to the Ugly Mug. The collection compiles poems by nearly 200 authors who have featured or read at the cafe.
The forty-eight poems in Sky Sandwiches echo John F. Buckley’s wry, paradoxical perspective, a point of view evoking both the transcendent and the quotidian, fusing a sky associated with religion and higher yearnings with the sandwiches of simpler sustenance. In his poems as in this world, people fly like crooked arrows, seeking targets both above and below. The collection describes how our desires lead us to absurd hopes and stale resignations, humble dreams and sublime despairs. It recounts the ways we may seek both eternal salvation and a half-decent Italian sub. Parts are tender. Parts are funny. Parts will get stuck in your braces.

Commissioned by Oliver Stone in 2015 to commemorate the Russian Revolution, Tariq Ali's captivating screenplay of the life and times of Vladimir Lenin puts flesh on the bones of the historical record and gets its pulse racing. From the author of The Dilemmas of Lenin, the drama captures the enigma of its central character. Ali shows Lenin in his rush from Switzerland to Petrograd by train to grasp his moment in history and the force of his personality on the tumult he found there. He made a revolution and remade a nation. Interwoven with the politics is an exploration of Lenin's personal life, especially his love for Inessa Armand. In the introduction, Ali argues that, despite the difficulties, a serious cinematic assessment of Lenin is still needed. Unfortunately, two very different attempts to film one failed. This first draft provides the basis for something on a grander scale at some stage in the future. Praise for The Dilemmas of Lenin 'Aims to rescue Lenin from both liberal caricature and Soviet hag- iography by recovering the realism and dynamism of his political thought' David Sessions, Nation 'An incredibly powerful, panoramic, and insightful study of the central revolutionary figure of the twentieth century' Paul LeBlanc, author of Lenin and the Revolutionary Party
Not your typical prostitute ... this is a story of unconditional love. Beautiful, intelligent, independent, strong-willed, wealthy... Lilith Fontenot seems, by all appearances, to have it all. But that's not how the highest-paid prostitute in New Orleans sees herself. A stain on society. A scourge. A waste. Outsider. Prisoner... Any idyllic dream of the normal life she may have once imagined, Lilith buried long ago. Her only plan now is survival. But mob boss Nico Santelli and community center owner Soti Christos have not given up on Lilith. Each has his own very specific, very opposing, plans for her, and neither will rest until it becomes a reality. LILITH is a singularly bracing take on an ancient tale of tireless love, betrayal, and the possibility of redemption.
