There are oodles of uses for a dinosaur -- from a fine umbrella to an excellent kite and a dandy pillow, not to mention a reliable burglar alarm and the perfect excuse to forget your homework. This delightfully absurd exploration of the domestic uses of dinosaurs -- and the things dinos just aren't good for at all -- is guaranteed to tickle funny bones and spark imaginations. This reading scheme comprises eight titles that can be used alongside any other method of learning to read. The books are intended for beginner readers and focus on phonics. The series introduces most of the 44 sounds in the English language - 26 initial sounds, digraphs (2 letters such as ch), phenomes (blends as in str), middle blends (oo) and final blends (ing). The first 100 most used words are introduced, repeated and carried over from book to book. A further 200 words are used and repeated a minimum of 3 times each in the story in which they first appear. Extra repitition is given in the activity books through a variety of reading, writing and other activities. Through their games and activities the reader is transported to a world of make-believe. Each book begins with pages introducing particular sounds which are then used in the story.
A fantastic rhyming story by Smriti Halls (I'm Sticking With You and Rain Before Rainbows), with dynamic illustrations from Richard Merritt (The Dinosaur Department Store), about discovering grit and building determination. Diplodocus Dinah is BRILLIANT at everything. There's nothing she can't do and no competition she can't win! But what happens when the Surfing Contest comes to Dino Town and Dinah discovers that surfing is something she just can't dino-do! For the first time ever Dinah doesn't come first. Will she be distraught? Or will she discover that there's more to having fun than winning? An encouraging and inspiring story, packed with hidden humour, that's perfect for fans of Giles Andreae's Giraffes Can't Dance. PRAISE FOR DINOS DON'T GIVE UP!: "Halls' gentle rhyming text makes sure to celebrate Dinah for all her wonderful qualities, and remind us that all we need when the going gets tough is a hug and a bit of encouragement . . . Richard Merritt's bright, eye-catching illustrations make a jolly and sweet, summery book with a kind message about resilience and caring." - BookTrust
