This volume offers critical assessments of Life of Jesus research in the last generation, with special emphasis on work that is quite recent. It will introduce graduate students to the field and will provide the veteran scholar with current bibliography and discussion of the issues. Topics treated include Jesus and Palestinian politics, Jesus tradition in Paul, Jesus in extracanonical Gospels, and Jesus' parables, miracles, death, and resurrection. The contributors are among the most widely recognized and respected Life of Jesus scholars. They include Marcus J. Borg, James H. Charlesworth, James D.G. Dunn, Sean Freyne, Richard Horsley, and Helmut Koester.
This volume of conference papers presents new discoveries, updated information, and technological advances in the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Two papers examine the identity of the messiahs in 4Q246 and 4Q521. A thorough analysis of scribal markings in the Dead Sea texts is presented. Biblical studies include multiple literary editions of biblical texts, the book of Numbers at Qumran, and the appearance of the Tetragrammaton in 4QSama texts. The notions of judgment and salvation according to Sapiential Work A are thoroughly examined, and the relationship of the six Barki Nafshi texts is carefully considered. New developments in the field of Dead Sea Scrolls studies include the Dead Sea Scrolls Database and DNA studies on the scrolls themselves.
This report presents results of geologic fieldwork that updates mapping in the Sealhole-Fitzpatrick lakes area west of Hudson Bay, Nunavut, with a focus on the paleogeographic and structural evolution of the Henik, Montgomery, and Hurwitz groups. Along with descriptions of the Archean to Paleoproterozoic rocks and their stratigraphic relationships, the report discusses the area's geologic structure and the evidence for Archean and Paleoproterozoic deformation.
This report is part of an ongoing study to characterize both sequence stratigraphy and chronostratigraphy of the Baker Lake Basin, Nunavut. The investigators examined well-exposed segments of the basin in detail, emphasizing sequence stratigraphic analysis to identify genetic packages of strata related to tectonically controlled basin-filling rhythms. Three sections exposed at the western edge of Thirty Mile Lake have been measured and correlated, yielding data on five depositional sequences. After an introduction on the geologic setting of the study area, the report provides facies assemblage descriptions and interpretations of the five depositional sequences of the lower Baker Lake Group. Finally, the accommodation (or space made available for a sedimentary system to fill) cycle in the basin is discussed and conclusions are drawn regarding the subsidence mechanism in the basin.
Reports research conducted in the Vernon area of southern interior British Columbia to search out and map marker units in high-grade Neoproterozoic and Palaeozoic metamorphic rocks, and to map the east-west extent of overlying Triassic Slocan Group strata. Stratigraphic relations in the area are summarized and detailed stratigraphy of a calcareous quartzite marker unit is described. Regional correlations of this marker unit with map units farther east & north and elsewhere in the Vernon map area are then discussed. The paper examines the hypothesis that the marker unit is the same succession that hosts the Kingfisher and Big Ledge lead-zinc occurrences, with implications for the exploration potential for base metals in the study area.
Presents and discusses results of effective porosity, bulk density, & electrical resistivity measurements made on samples from the Giant and Con gold mines, Northwest Territories. The samples represent mineralized and non-mineralized sections of the mines' quartz ankerite veins, sericite schist, chlorite schist, and basalt. The objective of the research is to provide basic data to be used in determining the petrophysical characteristics and electrical conductivity mechanism of these rocks, which would give information required to develop exploration strategies for aiding interpretation of electromagnetic survey data.
