Cryptogam is the Latin word-derived from-Cryptos-hidden, gametos-marriages. This means the plants whose act of fertilization is hidden. The seeds cannot be formed but emryo formation is common. Cryptogamic plants include the members of Thallophyta (algae and fungi), Bryophyta and Pteridopyta. The members of thallophyta are one celled / multicelled, saprophytic, parasitic and are without root, stem and leave (e.g. algae, fungi, lichens.) The members of bryophyte have root like, stem like and leaf like organs without vascular system, rhizoids and scales may be present and are superior to thallophyta. The members of pteridophytes are well differentiated in to root, stem and leaves, cannot form fruits but produce spores in sporangia on the leavesor stem. The life cycle is dominated by sporophytic generation which is with vascular system.
