Gilbert and Max: The Wedding, is the next in the series. It tells what John and Patty had to go through to say their vows. For them, it wouldn’t be your everyday wedding plans. The wedding wasn’t the only thing they had to do in a short period of time. In thirty-three days, they had to finish John’s mansion that’s where the wedding would be. Moving from two houses. And do it all with no wedding planner and no decoration. John had to take care of John’s father estate back in Texas. He would also be bringing a piece of Texas back with him. For the most part, things were not simple. It would take John’s family and friends in the neighborhood working together to help them meet the deadline. The holidays weren’t helping either. Things would come up and be unexpected like what John came back from Texas with. In the timeline they set, they would learn more about each other. Especially John and his family with one of the neighbors. But on the night before the wedding, one more unexpected thing happens. It was Patty’s health.

Dr. Hawthorne is a clinical hypnotist residing in early-nineteenth-century England. The daughter of his neighbors, Patricia Finney, has been singled out for elimination by a sinister organization from the future known as Apex. When they send timenauts into the past to carry out this directive, he gets added to their hit list. Instead, the two of them manage to evade their intended deaths and end up acquiring capabilities that can potentially cancel out the future of the entire program of time manipulation. Once they discover that the Doctor by himself has the capacity to cut them off from their own past, Apex has to figure out a way to get rid of him without killing him outright. While they are in the process of formulating their plans to do this, a strategically concealed plot emerges from an unexpected source with the intention of getting rid of Apex itself. The foundation upon which this story is based is the alleged normality of everyday English life. It serves as the reference point against which all the numerous venue changes that follow are contrasted. Included in these changes are dreams, forays into the future, alternate realities, extraterrestrial contacts, flashbacks, and journeys through the astral plane. The major trust behind this adventure, however, are the continual psychological adjustments necessary to navigate among all these mutable states of conscious awareness. And to top it off, the entire adventure is contained within a single event whose nature will not be revealed until the very end.

In 1938, when faced with a decision to work at a shoe company in India or stay in Czechoslovakia and wait for another war, Miki Hruska’s newly married parents opted to move, thinking they would return home in a few years. But they would not be able to return “home” for another four decades; instead, home became Calcutta, where they raised their family and established a business during a parade of turbulent social and political events. The ill-planned departure of the British from India and their bungled attempts at Partition engendered riots and killings that brought bloodshed to the family’s front door. And when the Communists took over the government of West Bengal, they brought labour disruptions that made it next to impossible to operate the family business. This riveting family memoir is set during the cataclysmic events of WWII and its aftermath, giving a harrowing yet heartwarming portrait of life for a migrant Czech family and showing how perseverance and love can sustain people through the darkest of times.
