In 1987/88 Adult Basic Education became a programming priority for CSC. The goal of the program was to increase the number of offenders possessing a completed Grade 8 in English and mathematics. This study reviewed the role that computer-assisted instruction could play in achieving this goal in a pilot study set up at Warkworth and Collins Bay institutions. The report examines: -- possible benefits provided by computers, such as student/staff ratios and student learning speed; -- adult basic education software available; -- training of teachers in use of computer assisted learning; -- the technology strategy required; -- most efficient and effective equipment configuration.
