This book looks at the relationships between the physical-social environment and the elderly in Europe and Latin America, from the Environmental Gerontology perspective and through geographical and psychosocial approaches. It addresses the main environmental issues of population ageing, based on an understanding of the complex relationships, adjustments and adaptations between different environments (home, residence, public spaces, landscapes, neighbourhoods, urban and rural environment) and the quality of life of the ageing population, associated with residential strategies and other aspects related to health and dependency. The different levels of socio-spatial analysis are also explored: macro (urban and rural environments, regions and landscapes), meso (neighbourhood, public space) and micro (personal, home and institution). New theoretical and methodological approaches are proposed to analyse the attributes and functions of the physical-social environment of the elderly, as well as new ways of living the ageing process. All will have to respond to the challenges of urbanisation, globalisation and climate change in the 21st century. Also, the different experiences and challenges of public planning and management professionals involved with the growing ageing population are presented, and will require greater association and collaboration with the academic and scientific fields of Environmental Gerontology.
"From a leader in the field of psychotherapy this new book is the first dedicated to the topic of the fear of contamination. The book starts by defining the disorder, before considering the various manifestations of this fear, examining both mental contamination and contact contamination, and feelings of disgust. Most significantly it develops a theory for how this problem can be treated, providing clinical guidelines - based around cognitive behavioural techniques."--BOOK JACKET.
"Valuable report based on the Ecuador Living Standard Measurement Survey (1994). Uses total consumption expenditures. Provides a baseline reference for future work. Contrast with INEC's basic needs survey (item #bi 97002637#)"--Handbook of Latin AmericanStudies, v. 57.
While explaining the interaction of modifying factors such as the family structure, life span considerations, and cultural influences within the family, The Framework of Systemic Organization emphasizes family health and healthy adaptation to change. It then focuses on crises resulting from illness and the environment - such as poverty and homelessness - and explores the effects these factors have on family members' wellness.
This book provides a comprehensive, state of the art overview that covers both the diagnosis and the treatment of dual disorders – joint psychiatric and substance use disorders associated with a worse outcome and disease progression than single psychiatric or addictive disorders. The book is designed to be highly relevant to clinical work and the organization of care systems and meets the real need for a European perspective on dual disorders that takes into account the realities of European treatment organization. All chapters have been written by European authors on the basis of existing European treatment programs or guidelines and European research. The book will be invaluable for all health professionals working in mental health and addiction care, who are increasingly confronted with patients suffering from dual disorders.
