Ce volume est Ia suite de S. P. Brock, C.T. Fritsch et S. Jellicoe, A Classified Bibliography of the Septuagint (Brill, Leiden 1973) pour les publications parues sur la Septante entre 1970 et 1993. Cette bibliographie regroupe d'abord les études sur le texte grec proprement dit- éditions, langue des traducteurs, techniques de traduction, critique textuelle, manuscrits de Ia Septante trouvés à Qumrân, réception dans le judaïsme hellénistique (Philon, Flavius Josèphe) et le christianisme ancien (Nouveau Testament et Pères). Viennent ensuite les études particulières, classées par livre biblique, suivies des études sur les versions, orientales et latines, issues de la Septante. Le volume s'achève sur les travaux consacrés aux illustrations de la Septante. Cet instrument de travail s'adresse à tous ceux qui s'intéressent à la Bible, au judaïsme et au christianisme de l'Antiquité. This volume is a successor to A Classified Bibliography of the Septuagint (Brill, Leiden 1973), by S.P. Brock, C.T. Fritsch and S. Jellicoe, for the literature on the Septuagint published between 1970 and 1993. It includes general publications on the Greek text — editions, language, translators' techniques, textual criticism, Septuagint manuscripts from Qumran and the use of the Septuagint in Ancient Judaism (Philon, Josephus) and Christianity (New Testament and Patristica). Particular studies are then classified by the individual books of the Bible, followed by literature on Oriental and Latin versions derived from the Septuagint. The studies on the illustrations of the Septuagint are included at the end. This reference tool will be indispensable for scholars or students interested in Bible, Judaism and Christianity in Late Antiquity.

Taking a fresh and innovative angle of enquiry, Anna Angelini investigates continuities and changes in the representation of divine powers in Hellenistic Judaism, thereby revealing the role of the Greek translation of the Bible in shaping ancient demonology, angelology, and pneumatology. This collaborative commentary on, or dictionary of, Kings, explores cross-cutting aspects of Kings ranging from the analysis of its composition, historically regarded, to its transmission and reception. Ample attention is accorded sources, figures and peoples who play a part in the book. The commentary deals with Kings treatment in translation and role in later ancient literature. While our comments do not proceed verse by verse, the volume furnishes guidance, from contributors highly qualified to advance contemporary discussion, on the book's historical background, its literary intentions and characteristics, and on themes and motifs central to its understanding, both of itself and of the world from which it arose. Lexicography, together with grammatical studies and textual criticism, forms the basis of biblical exegesis. Recent decades have seen much progress in this field, yet increasing specialization also tends to have the paradoxical effect of turning exegesis into an independent discipline, while leaving lexicography to the experts. The present volume seeks to renew and intensify the exchange between the study of words and the study of texts. This is done in reference to both the Hebrew source text and the earliest Greek translation, the Septuagint. Questions addressed in the contributions to this volume are how linguistic meaning is effected, how it relates to words, and how words may be translated into another language, in Antiquity and today. Etymology, semantic fields, syntagmatic relations, word history, neologisms and other subthemes are discussed. The main current and prospective projects of biblical lexicology or lexicography are presented, thus giving an idea of the state of the art. Some of the papers also open up wider perspectives of interpretation.
The essays reproduced in this volume have been selected on the basis of their common theme: Messianism in the Septuagint. The aim of the papers is to answer the following basic questions: Does the Septuagint enhance the messianic hope developed in the Masoretic text? Does it reflect a stage in the development of Israel's messianic expectations, perhaps preparing for Christianity and its Messiah? Questioning a theory accepted by many scholars, the author argues that the Septuagint as a whole does not exhibit an increased interest in royal messianism. While some texts offer literal translations, others display a weakening of the royal messianic character of the translated passages, or perhaps more correctly, several relevant passages in the Septuagint are witnesses to an earlier Hebrew version in which the messianic accents were less pronounced than in the final Masoretic text.
Die Vorträge aus Anlass des 60. Geburtstags von Adrian Schenker (Universität Freiburg/Schweiz) behandeln das Thema doppelter Überlieferungsstränge: unterschiedlich lange Texte bzw. Textausgaben, hebräischer Bibeltext und dessen griechische Übersetzung, jüdische und christliche Überlieferungen. Dabei werden u.a. die »Aktualisierungen« der Septuaginta untersucht, die zu den Kultvorschriften des Buchs Numeri vorgenommen wurden, außerdem Texte aus den Königsbüchern und aus Jeremia mit parallelen Überlieferungen.
