A charming, endearing, and gently flirtatious letter to the writer John Strange Winter declining an invitation because, as usual, he has left his work – particularly writing lectures for his American tour – until the last minute. He plans to sail “in abt. 5 weeks.” Le Gallienne was indeed extremely busy at the time, but not just with work. He was then becoming involved with Julie Norregard, who would become his second wife, and, contrary to the implications in this letter, he was traveling and engaged in social activities.
