The New York Times Bestselling Travel Memoir! The author of Turn Right at Machu Picchu travels the globe in search of the world’s most famous lost city. “Adventurous, inquisitive and mirthful, Mark Adams gamely sifts through the eons of rumor, science, and lore to find a place that, in the end, seems startlingly real indeed.”—Hampton Sides A few years ago, Mark Adams made a strange discovery: Far from alien conspiracy theories and other pop culture myths, everything we know about the legendary lost city of Atlantis comes from the work of one man, the Greek philosopher Plato. Stranger still: Adams learned there is an entire global sub-culture of amateur explorers who are still actively and obsessively searching for this sunken city, based entirely on Plato’s detailed clues. What Adams didn’t realize was that Atlantis is kind of like a virus—and he’d been exposed. In Meet Me in Atlantis, Adams racks up frequent-flier miles tracking down these Atlantis obsessives, trying to determine why they believe it's possible to find the world's most famous lost city—and whether any of their theories could prove or disprove its existence. The result is a classic quest that takes readers to fascinating locations to meet irresistible characters; and a deep, often humorous look at the human longing to rediscover a lost world.

Collects issues 1-4. Over the course of his long career, Nathaniel Tarn has been a poet, anthropologist, and book editor, while his travels have taken him into every continent. Born in France, raised in England, and earning a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, he knew André Breton, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Margot Fonteyn, Charles Olson, Claude Lévi-Strauss, and many more of the twentieth century’s major artists and intellectuals. In Atlantis, an Autoanthropology he writes that he has "never (yet) been able to experience the sensation of being only one person.” Throughout this literary memoir and autoethnography, Tarn captures this multiplicity and reaches for the uncertainties of a life lived in a dizzying array of times, cultures, and environments. Drawing on his practice as an anthropologist, he takes himself as a subject of study, examining the shape of a life devoted to the study of the whole of human culture. Atlantis, an Autoanthropology prompts us to consider our own multiple selves and the mysteries contained within.
The action of the book „Atlantis illusion” is set in the world of the legendary Atlantis. The author tries to recreate and analyze various situations and scenarios. Sometimes absurd, sometimes very probable, but the primary goal is to convey knowledge about the relativity of time through the influence of the environment, molecules and other factors. All topics are carefully analyzed by the author. Sometimes we don’t see what is handed to us on a plate. Imanuel is very good at spotting such cases
Over the past four years more than three-quarters of a million tourists have viewed the colorful coral-lined seas off the U.S. coasts while sitting comfortably in submersibles designed to carry over 40 passengers. Seven tourist submersibles have been operating in U.S. waters, and their safety record has been good. The primary concern, however, is that regulations and procedures will ensure that future submersibles builders and operators meet the same or better standards than are found in present operations. This volume examines the development of the tourist submarines industry throughout the world and explores the problems involved with strengthening the Coast Guard's capability of providing the oversight and expertise needed to certify and inspect tourist submersibles. It identifies the needs for system redundancy, hazards analysis, and quality control and recommends ways to enhance emergency rescue capabilities and management of passenger safety. The book also addresses concerns about small two- or three passenger submarines that do not now fall under the Coast Guard's safety purview.
In style terms this work is in three parts. First is this preface, then there is the OLD REALITY and the NEW REALITY.As previously indicated it is this PREFACE which must contain the accurate science! And that aspect has led to this title, for what was originally called the Black Tyger. The RTUR! I am aware that sometimes that has the extended spelling RTTUR to make the point of the double < TT >.It is not that the Black Tyger has changed, nor indeed the RTUR concept, but rather it has been refined, as I more clearly understand what is required at the Science level to reveal the reality. On the one hand it is done in an INSTANT, even BEFORE I write, since it is ALL IN PLACE, but disclosure contains a Time Element, which is checked for accuracy on the basis of REAL EVENTS. And real events will naturally include films, and television broadcasts, and radio transmissions; even down to what is reported in the newspapers; including particularly what is factually inaccurate but printed for political expediency; such as the instructions of the ruling party diktat!
