What makes a government legitimate? Why do people voluntarily comply with laws, even when no one is watching? This book critically considers what various Asian philosophies can contribute to a more substantive discourse on sustainability education and educational philosophy. Asian Americans are the fastest growing minority population in the country. Silence is a key pedagogical issue in language education. Seen by some as a space for thinking and reflection during the learning process, for others silence represents a threat, inhibiting target language interaction which is so vital during second language acquisition.
