Fashion forms an integral part of everyday life. We have to teach it with freshness and variety to make it meaningfully applicable to life. Fashion and garments provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental topics one might be expected to cover when teaching or researching fashion and garments, ranging from design principles and elements to merchandising, through to apparel production, marketing and retailing. This book is ideal for college and undergraduate students studying textiles or fashion courses. I cannot claim that all the materials I have written in this book are mine. I have learned the subject from many excellent books. This text books is designed to meet the everyday requirements of students at college and the general readers of fashion. Suggestions for improvement are welcome
An increasing amount of waste is generated each year from textiles and their production. For economic and environmental reasons it is necessary that as much of this waste as possible is recycled instead of being disposed of in landfill sites. In reality the rate of textile recycling is still relatively low. On average, approximately ten million tonnes of textile waste is currently dumped in Europe and America each year. Considering the diversity of fibrous waste and structures, many technologies must work in concert in an integrated industry in order to increase the rate of recycling. Recycling in textiles shows how this can be achieved. The first part of the book introduces the subject by looking at the general issues involved and the technologies concerned. Part Two explores the chemical aspects of textile recycling. Part Three focuses on recycled textile products, including nonwovens and alternative fibres. Finally, the last part of the book discusses possible applications of recycled textiles, including using recycled products in the operating theatre, for soil stabilisation and in concrete reinforcement.Recycling in textiles presents several promising technologies and ideas for recycling systems. This is the first book of its kind to bring together textile recycling issues, technology, products, processes and applications. It will prove an invaluable guide to all those in the industry who are now looking for ways to recycle their textile waste. - Provides extensive coverage of this hot topic - An invaluable guide for all in the textile industry - Learn how to increase the rate of recycling
This book provides an overview of current issues and challenges in the fashion industry and an update on data-driven artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and their potential implementation in response to those challenges. Each chapter starts off with an example of a data-driven AI technique on a particular sector of the fashion industry (design, manufacturing, supply or retailing), before moving on to illustrate its implementation in a real-world application
With the apparel industry contributing to almost 33 percent of the country’s exports, textile and garment manufacturing plays a vital role in the country’ economy. This book records the existing and emerging sustainability standards in the apparel industry and outlines the supply chain of the manufacturing process. It covers the best practices, industry norms, sustainability evaluation procedures, marketing strategies, and consumer perceptions. It also details the challenges faced by apparel manufacturing factories in adopting sustainable manufacturing techniques and finally presents a theoretical framework for sustainable manufacturing in Indian apparel manufacturing industry. This first of this set of books presents the various sustainable approaches in terms of circular economy and micro plastic pollution pertaining to the textiles and fashion supply chain. Sustainability is one of the important aspects in today’s industrial context, which is followed by every industrial sector with no exception to textiles and fashion. Sustainability and strict adherence to the principles of sustainability has become one of the essential needs in industry. There are countless measures in terms of various approaches to make the textiles and fashion sector sustainable. These measures, but not limited to, range from innovating and implementing new fibres and raw materials, introducing innovative manufacturing methods, chemicals, processes to focus on all the possible stages of a textile product’s life cycle from cradle to grave. These approaches include making the textiles and fashion sector circular and also development of new products from sustainable raw materials/processes or combination of both.
Effective waste management is more crucial than ever in dealing with environmental challenges. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a framework for addressing these challenges, but their complex interplay with waste management practices requires deeper examination. Exploring Waste Management in Sustainable Development Contexts offers a comprehensive exploration of this intersection, highlighting the urgent need for innovative solutions to transform waste management into a driver of sustainable development. The book delves into the various challenges of waste management, from the types and volume of waste generated to its environmental and health impacts. It sheds light on the inadequacies of current methods and presents sustainable practices that can pave the way for a greener future. By focusing on sustainable approaches to waste management, the book is an inspiration for actionable change and fosters a deeper understanding of waste management's role in achieving the SDGs.
In this book in your hands, the relationship between the textile and leather sectors, and the environment is examined from many viewpoints. The book contains many different subjects, from sustainability in the textile and leather sectors to the effect of historical textiles on human health. It will be interesting for readers from many disciplines in science.I thank all the authors contributing to the book and I hope that it will be helpful to the readers.
This book is part of a five-volume set that explores sustainability in textile industry practices globally. Case studies are provided that cover the theoretical and practical implications of sustainable textile issues, including environmental footprints of textile manufacturing, consumer behavior, eco-design in clothing and apparels, supply chain sustainability, the chemistry of textile manufacturing, waste management and textile economics. The set will be of interest to researchers, engineers, industrialists, R&D managers and students working in textile chemistry, economics, materials science, and sustainable consumption and production. This volume discusses novel trends and concepts in sustainable textile design, including innovative topics such as doodling and upcycling in clothing and apparel design for sustainable fashion initiatives. Along with strategies for repurposing fashion sustainability, the book also covers university interventions for the development of proper and environmentally friendly design practices. Specific technologies addressed include UV applications, laser treatments for dyeing, refined surface design techniques for products such as leather.
