Paramedic: Anatomy and Physiology utilizes a systemic approach, beginning by formulating a basic picture of the human body, then moving into more anatomic detail. Individual chapters discuss body systems, both how they function individually and together as a unit. In addition to the overall picture of each system, this text presents both the gross anatomy and the microscopic anatomy of vital structures.
Designed to help paramedicine students excel at their academic requirements, Anatomy and Physiology for Paramedical Practice is a unique book in that it brings together anatomy and physiology in a way that is useful for future practice in the field. Unlike other textbooks, anatomy and physiology are presented by body region, rather than system (chest rather than respiratory system) – the way that paramedics are likely to approach a patient when dealing with acute illness or trauma. It will help you understand how the body is organised, its underlying anatomical structure, in terms of gross anatomy, histology and/or cell biology, and then how anatomy and physiology are applied in clinical practice. The underlying tenet of this book is that a sound anatomical knowledge underpins successful understanding of physiology and physiological processes. As such, it will be invaluable not only for undergraduate and postgraduate students in paramedicine/emergency medicine, but for many other healthcare professionals to brush up on their knowledge. - Specifically designed to enable student paramedics to fully appreciate the human body and its functioning - Guides the reader through different regions of the body in a logical and coherent way - Covers anatomy first, followed by the physiology of the various structures - Extensive cross referencing to other relevant regions to enable full understanding of these both individually and in connection to one another - Clearly written text supported by relevant and informative illustrations - Text boxes covering applied anatomy, clinical anatomy, applied physiology and clinical physiology - Self-test multiple choice questions in each chapter
The Anatomy and Physiology Workbook for Paramedics is a valuable resource for all those taking an undergraduate human anatomy and physiology class, as well as those healthcare professionals wanting to brush up on their existing knowledge. The workbook includes colouring and labelling activities along with self-assessment tests for virtually every structure of the human body studied as part of the Paramedic Science degree programme and other healthcare science courses, providing an interactive, engaging approach to assessment and learning. Using a systems-based structure, the Anatomy and Physiology Workbook for Paramedics complements leading texts in the ?eld, and chapters are concise, enabling learners to master smaller sections of information in a cohesive manner. The workbook offers paramedic students a better understanding of anatomy and physiology with the view that this will help inform their practice as healthcare professionals and provide the best quality of care for their patients.

"Fully tailored for the first time for students outside of the USA, this beautifully illustrated volume brings to life all the excitement and challenge of the study of human anatomy and physiology in one stunning resource! Characterised by its friendly and accessible writing style, each chapter of Anatomy & Physiology, 1st European edition, comes with a range of helpful learning features such as study hints, chapter outlines, language of science and medicine lists, case studies, chapter summaries and review and critical thinking questions. The volume also boasts over 1400 images together with the unique underlying themes entitled the 'big picture' and 'cycle of life', which serve to emphasize the importance of the interrelationship between systems of the body and how these systems are influenced, in turn, by development and aging. Alongside this emphasis on interdependence and change, comes a focus on homeostasis, which enables the reader to see how the healthy body is one that is carefully tuned and that disease can readily occur when internal balance is disrupted." -- provided by publisher.
Practice-based education and placements are vital components of UK paramedic science programmes as they allow students to apply their university education, knowledge and theory to real life aspects of practice in the ambulance service. This book highlights the importance of the practice educator (PEd) role in supporting and assessing the learner during their practice-based education. Designed to serve as both an introductory resource as well as a text which can support your existing knowledge, Practice Education in Paramedic Science is a clear and easy-to-use guide for registered paramedics hoping to become practice educators as well as those already taking on board the practice educator role. The book offers a sound understanding of the practice educator role within the paramedic profession, highlighting important aspects such as student–practice educator interaction, learner assessment and reflection. Both authors are experienced practice educators themselves and offer a breadth of knowledge on the unique challenges and benefits of practice education whilst combining their expertise with established theories on coaching, leadership and mentoring. This book will be of interest to all healthcare professionals responsible for educating learners within practice as well as anyone undertaking practice-based education themselves. Key features of the book include: Multiple case scenarios Reflective points and questions Recognised theories and their application to practice education First-hand perspectives from learners and practice educators Where to find support for practice educators
Edited by expert academics and educators, Brett Williams and Linda Ross, and written by content specialists and experienced clinicians, this essential resource encourages readers to see the links between the pathophysiology of a disease, how this creates the signs and symptoms and how these should to be managed in the out-of-hospital environment. Additionally, Paramedic Principles and Practice 2e will arm readers with not only technical knowledge and expertise, but also the non-technical components of providing emergency care, including professional attitudes and behaviours, decision-making, teamwork and communication skills. Case studies are strategically used to contextualise the principles, step readers through possible scenarios that may be encountered and, importantly, reveal the process of reaching a safe and effective management plan. The case studies initially describe the pathology and typical presentation of a particular condition and progress to more-complex and less-typical scenarios where the practitioner faces increasing uncertainty. The only paramedic-specific text designed for Australian and New Zealand students and paramedics Progressive case studies that bridge the gap from principles to practice More than 40 essential pathologies covering common paramedic call-outs Covers both technical and non-technical skills to develop the graduate into expert clinician Includes an eBook with the purchase of the print book Additional resources on Evolve An eBook on VitalSource Instructor/and Student resources: Image collection Simulation scenarios Additional multimedia resources including 12-lead ECGs and chest sounds New chapters, including: Paediatric patients; Child abuse and intimate partner violence; Geriatric patients; Tropical conditions; Mass casualty; Interpersonal communication and patient-focused care; Evidence-based practice in paramedicine; Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics New case studies on major incidents and major trauma Focused 'Implications for' boxes specific to considerations including geriatrics, cultural diversity, communication challenges 'Summary of therapeutic goals' included with each case study Learning outcomes added to open each chapter Considered revision of pathophysiology across all chapters
This is a lab manual for a college-level human anatomy course. Mastery of anatomy requires a fair amount of memorization and recall skills. The activities in this manual encourage students to engage with new vocabulary in many ways, including grouping key terms, matching terms to structures, recalling definitions, and written exercises. Most of the activities in this manual utilize anatomical models, and several dissections of animal tissues and histological examinations are also included. Each unit includes both pre- and post-lab questions and six lab exercises designed for a classroom where students move from station to station. The vocabulary terms used in each unit are listed at the end of the manual and serve as a checklist for practicals.
