Cowley's words may be accepted as sin cere, proving that he had nothing to do with the poem The foure Ages of England: ar, The Iron flge. Moreover they are supported by other evidence. Later on in the same preface Cowley explains that his folio volume of Poems, 1656, does not include all his writings in verse or even all his published writings in verse.
