The College is living on borrowed time, so far as the staff is concerned. Master carpenters are paid more than hampden-sydney faculty members. As replacements become necessary, it is going to be hard to sell new teachers on the present salary scale. Dr. Robert again characterized the alumni as evidence of the past and promise of the future, and hoped that the present occasion might be repeated many times over.
