Book 2 in the Alcandians series. Stranded on Earth by deception, Zeva has no intention of becoming the alien on display to her human captors. Escape isn't just a dream, it's a basic need of survival. Nothing and no one will stop her from breaking her own chains. Back on Alcandar, more than her home and family wait for her. There, when minds brush, details fall away from the reality of binding fever. And an initial mind brush with Zeva was all it took for Ravid and Keenan, the men who threaten her freedom once more, to know what she is desperate to avoid-she is their mate. But Earth isn't the only planet that harbors evil. Even on Alcandar, men of no honor threaten the perfection her fantasies promised. Evil can rip a life to shreds in mere seconds, leaving you reaching for the one thing you were certain you did not want. Freedom comes with a high price tag, and may cost Zeva the two men who are part of her soul. Ravid and Keenan are more than her mates-they hold her heart as well and she has no intention of letting anyone keep her away from them.

There are few writers who can take the facts of an actual event and transform them into a compelling story that captures the mind and the heart. James Raffan is that rare author, proving with Deep Waters that he is a masterful storyteller who has not only penned a story that is by turns harrowing and poignant, but is also a powerful investigative work that sensitively explores the nature of courage, risk and loss. On the morning of June 11, 1978, 27 boys and four leaders from St. John’s School in Ontario set out on a canoeing expedition on Lake Timiskaming. By the end of the day, 12 boys and one leader were dead, with all four canoes overturned and floating aimlessly in the wind. This tragedy, which was first deemed to be an “accident,” was actually, as James Raffan explains, a shocking tale of a school’s survival philosophy gone terribly wrong, unsafe canoes and equipment, and a total lack of emergency preparedness training. Deep Waters is a remarkable story of endurance, courage and unspeakable pain, a book that also explores the nature of risk-taking and the resilience of the human spirit.

In the early 20th century the US "International Code of Signals" was a very progressive way for vessels to communicate important messages regarding matters of safety and navigation. The edition of 1907 contained three sections: the first part depicts urgent and important signals and all the tables of money, weights, barometric heights, etc., together with a geographical list and a table of phrases formed with the auxiliary verbs. The second part is an index. It consists of a general vocabulary and a geographical index. The third part gives lists of the United States storm-warning, life-saving, time-signal, and wireless telegraph stations, and of Lloyd's signal stations of the world. It also contains semaphore and distant signal codes and the United States Army and Navy and Morse Wigwag Codes. Reprint of the original edition.
