This book examines the ways in which fiction has addressed the continent since the Second World War. Drawing on novelists from Europe and elsewhere, the volume analyzes the literary response to seven dominant concerns (ideas of Europe, conflict, borders, empire, unification, migration, and marginalization), offering a ground-breaking study of how modern and contemporary writers have participated in the European debate. The sixteen essays view the chosen writers, not as representatives of national literatures, but as participants in transcontinental discussion that has occurred across borders, cultures, and languages. In doing so, the contributors raise questions about the forms of power operating across and radiating from Europe, challenging both the institutionalized divisions of the Cold War and the triumphalist narrative of continental unity currently being written in Brussels.

"When Life Hands You Cactuses, Make Margaritas" highlights my life's journey and the many ups and downs I have experienced - from the day I was born as a child of war in Lebanon through today, a 42-year-old mom living with the deadly Stage 4, Metastatic Breast Cancer. My story is about experiencing war as a child, fleeing Lebanon on a smugglers boat, being an immigrant in Sweden, my fight for female independence from the patriarchal and conservative home I grew up in, my three love stories, my heartbreak, my longing for a child, my struggle with infertility, my surviving breast cancer twice by the age of 30 only to receive a death sentence at 37, my fun, successful career and how I achieved my dreams in the male-dominated tech industry, and how after 15 years of trying I became a mother at last. It's about my joy and passion for living life like there is no tomorrow and like I'm gonna live forever. Throughout the years I've learned how to handle these challenges, survive and thrive from them, instead of laying down and giving up. I'm therefore including my 8 Ingredient Margarita Recipe on how to overcome challenges and thrive in life. The Ingredients are: RESILIENCE CONFIDENCE LOVE FEAR CHANGE UNFUCKWITHABLE HOPE EMPOWERMENT So, why am I writing a book about my life? This book is for me, my son, and it's for you. Me, because I need to cherish and celebrate the life I have had and still have before it is taken from me. My son, because he will most likely lose me way too soon. I believe hearing my story in my words will help him face and manage his grief. And you, because maybe, just maybe, you will find inspiration from my journey and ways to handle your own challenges in life. "This novel should come not with blurbs but with a hazardous-material warning: There's bone and gristle here, be ready for that taste in your mouth you can't spit out. First words to last, it's strong stuff." —James Sallis, author of Drive The first novel to appear in English by the "subway janitor by night, novelist by day," who began his writing career while an undocumented immigrant in the United States, Like Flies from Afar will demonstrate why K. Ferrari is already an award-winning star of international crime fiction. A hardboiled noir thriller, a whodunit, a black comedy, and a filthy catalog of the excesses of wealth, this is a Jim Thompson novel for the globalized world. Mr. Luis Machi is an unforgettably loathsome and hilarious Argentinian oligarch who made his fortune collaborating with the worst elements of society—parasites, pushers, and secret policemen. He has a cocaine habit, a collection of three hundred ties, ten million dollars in the bank, and a bloody corpse in the trunk of his BMW . . . but as far as the body goes, he's completely innocent. He has no idea who the victim could be, or who among his many, many enemies might be trying to frame him for murder, and he doesn't have much time to find out . . . The profane and uproarious Like Flies from Afar follows Machi through twenty-four hours of his eventful life—one full day in which to solve this mystery, or at least to make sure he isn't the one to take the fall.
Who was Jaipal Singh Munda? What was his political-intellectual contribution in Indian Independence and in building of a new India? What were the aspirations of the tribal society that Jaipal and other Tribal leaders were representing? Even after seventy years of Independence, history is silent on this. On one hand, there are hundreds of books, dramas and movies on many freedom fighters including Gandhi, Nehru, Jinnah, Ambedkar, and still many more new books are coming on them every day, but there is not a single book on Jaipal Singh Munda. It was the native people, who had built this country by giving the great civilization of Harappa-Mohanjodaro to the humankind. Was their representative Jaipal Singh Munda so insignificant that not a single book could have been written on him? If, he was the real heir of the first freedom-loving community in the colonial India, who had always been at the top of all spheres of knowledge, creation and conflict. And if, he had been a worthy leader of distinguished talent, then what're the reasons for which he has been neglected to that extent? Although, he had been neglected at the pan-Indian level, the ruling class could not erase Jaipal Singh Munda from Adivasi society, its history and the politics of Jharkhand. It is because of continuous storm surging in the form of Jharkhand movement never let erased the contribution and leadership of Jaipal Singh Munda from its conscience of historical conflict.
