We know by now that Buster Tensyllables, one of the Tensome, is able to turn into any plant. But how did he come by this gift? What is his history? How did he get to Wizard School? How did he get his green thumb? And what is his view of how things happened during his first year? It has to be a unique view, not everyone is a Plantasian. We also know that Buster’s last name had ten syllables before it was shortened to Tensyllables. What is it originally and why was it changed? He was the youngest Master Agronomist in the history of Wher Garland. He also happened to be the first Plantasian. Wampum was able to save Wher Garland. Following in his footsteps, Buster was able to save the Universe.Many people think that the only way to get to Wizard School is to either take the Train. But if you can’t afford the train, there is a bus to Wizard School. Yet, Buster Tensyllables didn’t take the bus or the train. He did take a bus, but not the one to Wizard School and not the one to Prep School where his parents thought he was heading. He took a bus for a short distance, then he walked. Along the way, he met Sidney Rather Nottingham who was also walking to Wizard School. Luckily, one of they knew the way. Otherwise they would have been lost.
In Book 3 of The Wizard Without a Wand, Oscar Henry spends his summer trying to figure out how he can possibly earn enough money to return to Wizard School. His Folks could have possibly figured out how to cope with either his enormity or his gentleness, one or the other. But they can’t figure out how to cope with both. But he’s too gentle. His parents ask Oscar Henry to go out into the world to figure out who he is and what his place in the world is. So he takes off, catching a ride on a freight train with two hobos who are his friends. They find jobs in various places. Oscar Henry is always trying to earn more so that he can return to Wizard School. But no matter how hard he tries, he just can’t make enough to do that. It’s not so much that he wants to return to Wizard School. But he misses his friends. And if he doesn’t return, he’ll never see them again. But a miracle is just around the corner. During their third year of Wizard School, Leesha Fourthchild casts a spell. Actually, she casts several spells, but this one is particularly haunting. Leesha loses her boyfriend Shmedley Thrumbledack and gains him back. Shmedley plays a trick on the couple who were posing as his Parents. And the Tensome learns more about the movement of the Springboks, who Arlanda Florida the Principal is certain are up to no good. A bully becomes friends with Shmedley. Shmedley can be friends with almost anyone, so this is not that surprising. And Amanda Sunflower Triangulum also gains a friend. Read on to find out more of what happens with the Tensome during their third year at Wizard School. Leesha casts a spell which doesn’t just make her disappear. This spell make her cease to exist. This is good because now she won’t ever have to worry about turning into a velociraptor ever again. She won’t have to worry about turning into a dangerous dinosaur who might hurt somebody. As long as she was with her boyfriend Shmedley Thrumbledack, she didn’t have to worry about that because he can turn her back into a human. Speaking of Shmedley, now that Leesha is no more, she’ll never get to hold hands with him again. She’ll never get to kiss him again. And she terribly misses him. How will Leesha be able to exist again? Who can help her? Leesha finds that there is one advantage to not existing. It makes it easier to spy on the underground world and find out what they’re up to. Shmedley is a Spring. A Spring is the opposite of an Offspring. If you’re a Spring you never had parents. This is different from an Orphan, for they once had parents. A Spring is also something that bounces. The Spring is a certain time of year. It opens the door to Summer, to better things. A Spring is a flow of water into a pool. A Spring is a magical being who has all these magical attributes. How can Shmedley use these forms of magic to help him. It’s good that he has some magic, because he doesn’t have a wand. And even though Wizard Math is good for solving problems, it’s not much help when you’re being picked on by bullies.
Everybody has a different notion of what Heaven is like. In the Heaven where Jane lives, everybody is expected to use The Will to do things. Using the Will, people in Jane’s Heaven merely have to think to accomplish anything. They never have to get their hands dirty touching anything. Jane, though, wants to touch things. From across the room, he noticed her elbow. Such an exquisite elbow. What fine lines. As he traced the curve of her elbow with his eyes, he noticed something stenciled there. At this distance he should not have been able to tell that that something was a flower. But he could, so he gave up reasoning for reality. His eye started tracing the lines of the flower. He was only vaguely aware that the flower was drawn on a woman’s elbow some 20 yards away. Suddenly, his laptop got heavier, almost dragging him down. He thought that must have been due to all the data he had recently downloaded. Strange thought. The lines of the flower slowly, but surely, turned into a descending, spiraling staircase. “What an interesting twist”, he thought. And then his mind swirled out of control. His last thought was that he was falling. ... Pink polka-dots were never so welcome! Grandmother took off her amulet of power and placed it over Carena’s neck. The council looked askance. Carena’s sisters and mother looked jealous. Grandmother looked smug. Then she turned into a pile of dust. Carena picked up the pile of dust, then blew each bit of dust out into the air. She let the fire ripple down her arms. And one by one she ignited each speck of dust, so that it shone like a star just for an instant. Somehow she knew, this was what Grandmother would have wanted. The council would have none of this. It just would not do to have someone so young (she was 20) yielding so much power. Their stern looks and pointing fingers told Carena that she had no choice, but to leave the village forever.
A friend who read The Dancer, said she felt like she was right in the story. When the Dancer danced, she danced. But perhaps you don’t relate to the Dancer, there are plenty of other main characters you can relate to. There’s the Dancer, who is now called the Dancer Magnifique, or just Magnifique for short. There’s her husband, Straight-Spear, the Chief’s son. He dances on his horse, Rides-Like-Thunder. Rides-Like-Thunder is a god. Magnifique and Straight-Spear’s daughter is now Dancer, following in her mother’s footsteps. However, she will dance atop Rides-Like-Thunder, while her mother will not. There’s the Shaman and the Director. Their first meeting didn’t go well, as she swung Dancer’s shoes at him and knocked him out. But now they’re buddy-buddy. They act as Grandparents to Dancer. And there’s Ramon and Raul – Magnifique’s boyfriends before she met Straight-Spear. Now they’re buddy-buddy. In the fourth story, Dancer is left all alone. She is old enough to be all alone. But she’s used to being among several adults, whom she can rely on for help, most of the time. She doesn’t need their help, but just in case. All the adults in her life have left, including Rides-Like-Thunder. They’ve all gone to other worlds for various reasons. They will be back, but for she is alone. And it’s enough to make the Author cry (I forgot to mention that the Author is one of the main characters.) She was all alone, so she did what she always did – she danced. She danced for joy, she danced for strength, she danced for sorrow, she danced for weariness. She danced because she didn’t know what else to do. She had been dancing ever since they left. What had it been, 7, maybe 8 days now? She didn’t know. At some point, she would fall exhausted, asleep, and stop dancing. But not yet. She felt she could go on for ages. In book three, The Dancer becomes the Dancer Magnifique. And the story’s focus is more on her daughter, who is now The Dancer. She curtsied to herself in the mirror, and as she did so, her reflection in the mirror curtsied back to her. She tried it again, and without fail, the mirror curtsied back to her. What a marvelous invention she thought, a curtsying mirror. Of course it was just a normal mirror, but she liked being fanciful and pretending that it was a special mirror, one which obeyed her every command. She curtsied to the mirror once more. Then fully assured of her command over the mirror, she walked away. But the figure in the mirror didn’t move. She couldn’t believe she was not in control of her special mirror, so she just kept walking out the door, even though her reflection did not follow. Besides she was late for dinner, her mother would be expecting her. The Dancer tells her mother. The Shaman, the Dancer’s Grandmother, insists that the Dancer must fix the mirror all by herself. Will anyone defy the Shaman and help the Dancer fix the mirror? How would she even start to fix it?
