Excerpt from A New Basis for Chemistry: A Chemical Philosophy A year has passed since the publication of the first edition of this volume, and a second is called for. In that interval the author has pre pared and read before learned societies, in far ther extension of the views therein put forth, four papers, two of which have been published. He has, moreover, detected an inadvertence by which, alike in the first edition and in these pub lished papers, a grave error was introduced into his previous calculation of the integral weight of water, and consequently of all species for which that liquid is the unit of specific gravity. Portions of Chapters IX., X., XL, and XIII. Have accordingly been revised, and a supple mentary Chapter of seventy-six pages, with an Appendix, has been added, containing the sub stance oi the four papers mentioned. A new Index has also been prepared. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
