Excerpt from A Manual for the Use of the Lodges: Under the Jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New Jersey At a meeting of the Grand Lodge held at Trenton in January last, your committee presented a revision of the Manual and Ceremonials, with their report, as follows: "In making selection of material, the committee have sought to give strength to their work by using only such Masonic writings as are undeniably of good repute; at the same time they have adhered quite closely to some forms which have been in use for a long time by the Craft in this jurisdiction, and which have become, by usage, very familiar to us as Masons." Their work was accepted by the Grand Lodge, after some modifications, and the committee was continued, with instructions to complete their work, cause it to be published, and disturbed to the Lodges. We present this volume as the result of our labors, and would report that the instructions of the Grand Lodge have been fully carried out by us.
