A Happy Morning is part of a nongraded basal reading program intended to teach basic decoding, comprehension, and study skills through selections of fantasy, fiction, poetry, and factual material. The materials are designed to present pupils with the skills in decoding final consonants and consonants digrams. Reading selections are included to give pupils the opportunity to apply decoding skills to the actual reading process. Teacher-directed activities, such as interpreting the text illustrations, listening to instructions and giving oral reports are presented to permit pupils to extend their skills through practice. Practice workbook activities are included such as using contractions and abbreviations, and understanding and choosing appropriate pronoun references.
