The apocalypse had come and gone, and even though there were still plenty of walkers stumbling around Montanaor what Billy called GOB (Good Ol Boy) landthe worst thing on two legs was the survivors. At least with the dead you knew where you stoodas a potential meal! Billy was a young black man who worked for Zombie Express, the main trucking company that ran supply routes between the remaining towns and strongholds spread across the Big Sky state. He was originally from the harsh environs of L.A., and he now had to show the ropes to Ted, the erudite Old White Dude the company had saddled him with. He knew nothing about the elderly grandpa, other than Zombie Express had hired him at the last minute to ride shotgun in his truck. Everyones story of their Z Day . . . or week . . . or month, was different of course, but damn, didnt the old dude ever shut up? And just minutes into their first run the old man was already napping! He was going to get Billy killed . . . or worse! And Billy did not want to end up a dead head!
The zombie apocalypse had done a horrific number on the world a few years earlier, but somehow the state of Montana had come through better than most places in what had once been America. They had a working electrical grid, were able to manufacture diesel fuel, and had a passable government protected by a mostly green National Guard. Sure, there were still dead heads stumbling about, but not anything like what filled the huge urban areas. Up in GOB (Good Ol Boy) land, the survivors had cobbled together a semblance of what most had lost. Ted, a verbose ex-Gulf War veteran, worked for Zombie Express, the main trucking company that was helping stitch together the widespread groups of survivors. He left most of the driving to his partner, a fortyish black woman who furtively referred to him as the Old White Dude. They had a professional respect for each otherof sorts. Having been of roughly retirement age in the world of before, Teds attitude with her was a bit dated, and she did not appreciate all the sexual innuendos. All in all, they did their best to survive the aftermath of the apocalypse . . . and each other.

A bold plan for the United States to regain the lead in infrastructure development through privatization and public-private partnerships America's infrastructure—its essential roads, bridges, ports, airports, power grids, and telecommunications systems—were once the pride of the nation and an example for the world. But now, after years of neglect and oversight, this infrastructure is crumbling and causing catastrophic changes in the US quality of life. Build seeks to explain how American infrastructure collapsed and what can be done to repair it. In a series of colorful, rarely told cases, Build takes readers on a revealing tour behind the scenes of the successes and debacles of key infrastructure projects to show what works, why the United States has failed in recent decades to invest in infrastructure, and how the private sector can help revitalize the sector, spur job growth, and contribute to climate resilience. Sadek Wahba examines the private origins of US infrastructure and the federally funded megaprojects that came after the New Deal, investigating the role the private sector can and should play in building infrastructure. By drawing comparisons with systems in the United Kingdom, France, India, and China, Wahba shows that while privatization and public-private partnerships cannot solve all infrastructure challenges, they are essential for closing funding gaps, overcoming political paralysis, and driving major infrastructure advances. Build will appeal to readers interested in public finance, domestic policy, the role of the federal government, tax policy, and urban affairs.

This book explores the central role of the zombie in contemporary popular culture as they appear in video games. Moving beyond traditional explanations of their enduring appeal – that they embody an aesthetic that combines horror with a mindless target; that lower age ratings for zombie games widen the market; or that Artificial Intelligence routines for zombies are easier to develop – the book provides a multidisciplinary and comprehensive look at this cultural phenomenon. Drawing on detailed case studies from across the genre, contributors from a variety of backgrounds offer insights into how the study of zombies in the context of video games informs an analysis of their impact on contemporary popular culture. Issues such as gender, politics, intellectual property law, queer theory, narrative storytelling and worldbuilding, videogame techniques and technology, and man’s relation to monsters are closely examined in their relation to zombie video games. Breaking new ground in the study of video games and popular culture, this volume will be of interest to researchers in a broad range of areas including media, popular culture, video games, and media psychology.
