Since antiquity, mankind has been searching for God in all the wrong places, which has resulted in a world that is tormented, driven by evil, and out of control. In traveling the globe, the author has witnessed firsthand the misery, squalor, and hopelessness of people who are struggling to find true meaning in their lives. Billions of people are living in darkness and ignorance because they have never known the peace and tranquility of a personal, loving relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ. The author understands that trying to explain love to someone who has never been in love is not easy. But, with a fervent desire, the author attempts to show nonbelievers the way with the confidence that the Holy Spirit will do the rest.
In the most extraordinary way, the wisdom of this book invites you to fall in love with the human condition and offers endless compassion for every Soul walking the planet. A Light in the Darkness is the true story of an incredible visitation from God that began for Phyllis Leavitt in 1994 at the darkest time of her life. Although she had prayed for God's help, she was totally unprepared when one day, God literally spoke. There was no question that a source of Divine Love and profound Wisdom came to her as she wrote in her journal. She was taken on a startling and sometimes terrifying journey through past lives and way beyond that, to a new understanding of what all our Souls are doing here in human form and where Soul wants to take us. Her personal story is one footprint on the long road we have all walked as human beings, a small opening into a vast inpouring of Light on the Road Home. A Light in the Darkness will open your heart to the Divine meaning and purpose of all human struggle and it will open your mind to your personal place in God's Love and the evolution of human consciousness.
Bee stings on the backside! That was just the beginning. Tim was about to enter a world of the past, with bullying boys, stones and Indian spirits of long ago. But they were real spirits, real stones, very real memories… In this powerful family saga, author Tim Tingle tells the story of his family’s move from Oklahoma Choctaw country to Pasadena, TX. Spanning 50 years, Saltypie describes the problems encountered by his Choctaw grandmother—from her orphan days at an Indian boarding school to hardships encountered in her new home on the Gulf Coast. Tingle says, “Stories of modern Indian families rarely grace the printed page. Long before I began writing, I knew this story must be told.” Seen through the innocent eyes of a young boy, Saltypie — a 2011 Skipping Stones honor book, WordCraft Circle 2012 Children's Literature Award-winner, and winner of the 2011 Paterson Prize for Books for Young People in the category of Grades 4-6 — is the story of one family’s efforts to honor the past while struggling to gain a foothold in modern America. Tim Tingle, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, is a sought-after storyteller for folklore festivals, library conferences, and schools across America. At the request of Choctaw Chief Pyle, Tim tells a story to the tribe every year before Pyle’s State of the Nation Address at the Choctaw Labor Day Gathering. Tim’s previous and often reprinted books from Cinco Puntos Press—Walking the Choctaw Road and Crossing Bok Chitto—received numerous awards, but what makes Tim the proudest is the recognition he receives from the American Indian communities. Karen Clarkson, a Choctaw tribal member, is a self-taught artist who specializes in portraits of Native Americans. She did not start painting until after her children had left home; she has since been widely acclaimed as a Native American painter. She lives in San Leandro, California.

An introduction to the major themes and passages of the holy book of Islam, this book invites readers of any religion -- or none -- to meditate on verses of the Quran as support for spiritual practices and growth. It guides the reader through the rich tapestry of the Quran, weaving through a number of themes, including the mystery of God, surrender to the divine will, and provisions for the spiritual journey. Quranic verses are supplemented by sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, the words of Rumi and other Sufi poets, and relevant quotations and insights from Jewish and Christian sources. The book also offers practical suggestions for expanding and strengthening one's spiritual sinews.
The main title of the book, From Darkness into Light, is a metaphor referring to the most important life-altering event in the author’s life from a totalitarian dictatorship to living in the free world. The subtitle reflects his eyewitness account of events and experiences, captured in five stories, in chronological order, from his birth in 1938 in Budapest, Hungary, to when he is in the United States as twenty-six years old as a married man with a child, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the world’s premier science and engineering institution, and ready to embark on living the American dream. Robert Ratonyi spent the first seven years of his life in an openly anti-Semitic country, suffering the loss of his father and many of his close relatives, uncles, aunts, and cousins, in the Holocaust. He then spent his adolescent years under the hard-core Stalinist communist dictatorship. He was brought up by a single mother, a Holocaust survivor, in a working-class neighborhood. According to contemporary American definition, the family lived in poverty, barely making it from paycheck to paycheck his uneducated and unskilled mother could provide as a manual laborer. As a freshman at the Technical University of Budapest, he participated in a peaceful student march on October 23, 1956, that turned into a bloody uprising against the regime. He was caught up in the uprising, hoping that Hungary could break free out of the “iron curtain” that separated the east from the west. When the Russians put down the revolution, he managed to escape to Austria on December 6, 1956, with no money or other earthly possessions, leaving behind his mother, family, and friends. He was single-mindedly focused on finding a new, free country where he could continue his university education. He went to the American Embassy in Vienna to apply for immigrating to the US but was told that the quota for Hungarian refugees was filled. The Canadians were actively seeking students who wanted to continue their education, and Robert Ratonyi ended up in Montréal, Canada, in February 1957. The last story ends when Robert Ratonyi succeeds in finishing his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964. This story demonstrates how an immigrant can become a contributor to society by taking risks, being willing to work hard, delaying gratification, learning English, and getting a good education. He is now semiretired as a portfolio manager and is a regular speaker on behalf of the William Breman Jewish Heritage & Holocaust Museum and the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust. He and his wife live in Atlanta and are fervent supporters of the arts, education, as well as local Jewish organizations.
