Yasargil Microneurosurgery Study Guide is designed for effective learning and study of the neurosurgical principles contained in seminal microneurosurgery textbooks. From normal microsurgical anatomy to aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and CNS tumor microsurgery, this study guide provides a question-and-answer format to knowledge of the background, anatomy, and techniques of microneurosurgery. This work is a practical guide to the application of microneurosurgery to a variety of brain conditions, including intracranial aneurysms, extrinsic and intrinsic tumors, while providing guidance on instrumentation and equipment, neuroanesthesia, complications, and more. This practical book is ideal for neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuroanatomists, and other technical experts with a clinical interest in brain microsurgery. - Provides a fill-in the blanks format structure of question and answers to test microneurosurgery learning - Discusses pathology, physiology, imaging and treatment protocols in neurosurgery - Details acronyms to help provide memory cues - Allows readers to test their knowledge of neurosurgical anatomy, techniques, equipment, and more - Ideal for both neurosurgeons, neurosurgical residents, and others working in the field of microneurosurgery
M. Gazi Yasargil: Father of Modern Neurosurgery describes Professor Yasargil developing a means of reducing the mortality rates associated with the deadliest of brain pathologies from thirty percent in the mid-1960s to less than two percent. It required not only a vastly redesigned microscope, but an array of new surgical instruments, even a new way of thinking. 1967 witnessed neurosurgeons flocking to Zurich from around the world to learn his method. Yasargil possessed a truly amazing surgical talent, but his brand of microneurosurgery allowed even the lesser skilled to achieve stunning results if the requisite laboratory-hours to master the method were observed. Yasargil's life and times were as dramatic and challenging as microneurosurgery was important. He was born in a cave in rural east Turkey as his parents were held at gunpoint by outlaws determined to challenge the new government in Ankara. At eighteen, with his family's hearts in their throats, he was off to Vienna to study medicine. But when Nazi police suspected him of being a Jew, he was not allowed to register for classes. But instead of returning to Turkey defeated, he chose to push into Germany where he bargained enrollment as a first year medical student. From 1943 to 1945 he was harassed by Hitler's police as a potential spy. Headstrong, confident-he typically made matters worse. The bombs killing some of his classmates were dropped from British and American aircraft. Since this story contains as much history and adventure as medical triumph, a brief glossary of medical terms make it accessible to anyone reading at the high school level.

This open access book presents the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of neurovascular diseases, and offers expert opinions and advice on avoiding complications in neurovascular surgery. It also covers complication management and post-operative follow-up care. The book is divided in to three parts; the first part discusses common approaches in neurovascular surgery, describing the steps, indications for and limitations of the approach, as well as the associated complications and how to avoid them. The second part addresses surgical treatment based on pathology, taking the different locations of lesions into consideration. The third part focuses on the technological developments that support neurovascular surgery, which may not be available everywhere, but have been included to help vascular surgeon understand the principles. This book is a guide for young neurosurgeons, neurosurgery residents and neurosurgery fellows, as well as for medical students and nurses who are interested in neurosurgery or are associated with this field in any way. It is also a useful teaching aid for senior neurosurgeons.
This volume covers Microsurgical Anatomy of the Basal Cisterns and Vessels of the Brain, Diagnostic Studies, and General Operative Techniques and Pathological Considerations of the Intracranial Aneurysms.
Essentials of Neuroanesthesia offers useful insights on the anesthetic management of neurosurgical and neurologic patients. This book covers all topics related to neuroanesthesia, providing essential knowledge on the brain and spinal cord. Sections include chapters on anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, along with specific chapters related to various neurosurgical and neurological problems and their anesthetic management. This book provides an understanding of related issues, such as palliative care, evidence based practice of neuroanesthesia, sterilization techniques, biostatistics, and ethical issues, and is useful for trainees, clinicians, and researchers in the fields of neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neuroanesthesia, and neurology. - Offers useful insights on the anesthetic management of neurosurgical and neurologic patients - Discusses related issues, such as palliative care, evidence based practice of neuroanesthesia, sterilization techniques, biostatistics, and ethical issues - Useful for trainees, clinicians, and researchers in the fields of neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neuroanesthesia, and neurology
This book uses the multiple-choice question (MCQ) format to specifically address the topic related to the cerebral ventricles. The mission of this book is to help readers revise the core concepts and maintain knowledge of the anatomy, pathology, and neurosurgery of the cerebral ventricles. This study companion is structured in five sections, for a total of 18 chapters, including 450 + MCQs in a convenient format to provide a comprehensive and concise overview. Answers and explanations appear immediately below the questions to enhance readability. This book is an adjunct to existing texts and does not intend to be the primary source of information; it rather aims to help readers identify their relevant strengths and weaknesses in the area. The content is based on the most up-to-date best practice evidence, with a style that mirrors the format adopted by most local, regional, and international board examinations. The student of neurosurgery, neurology, neuroscience, neuroanatomy, the residents, the fellows, the younger attending preparing for exams or practice, and even the later-stage surgeons or physicians are the target audience of this book.
This volume provides an overview of new concepts in neurovascular interventions based on clinical and scientific knowledge of cerebrovascular disorders. It especially focuses on subarachnoid hemorrhage and cerebrovascular malformations, e.g. aneurysms, arterio-venous malformations, and cavernomas. A separate part addresses cerebral revascularization for both complex aneurysms and ischemia. All contributions were written by recognized experts and cover original papers presented at the 7th European Japanese Stroke Surgery Conference, held in Verona, Italy in June 2014. The authors present new trends and strategies for managing emerging problems, as well as in-depth discussions on controversial issues in the field.
