Use of and trade in wildlife is a fact of life for human society around the globe. Article IV of the CITES Convention requires that exporting countries restrict trade in Appendix II species to levels that are not detrimental either to species? survival, or to their role within the ecosystems in which they occur (known as the ?non-detriment finding?). Based on two workshops convened by IUCN to develop some pragmatic assistance for Scientific Authorities, this publication presents the background to the development of the non-detriment finding checklist and explains how the checklist itself is designed to work, in the hope that Scientific Authority staff will take and develop the parts of the approach that they find useful.

Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition moves your students beyond learning about the Spanish language to actually using their Spanish in natural, meaningful contexts. With Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition students develop more confidence for communication and begin to think critically about language and culture. This is achieved by focusing on seven communicative functions and the grammar structures that support them. These communicative functions appear at the beginning of the text and are recycled throughout, providing opportunities for review in different contexts. Since this is not the typical linear march through grammar one structure at a time, students are able to begin using language in a way that is creative and allows for natural language production. As the title suggests, Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition puts students on a successful path from simple phrases to more extensive, paragraph-length discourse. Built on the successful foundation of Punto y aparte, the best-selling brief intermediate-level text, the Expanded Edition offers more grammar practice, expanded vocabulary, and a greater variety of cultural contexts, providing ample material for one-year intermediate courses, while maintaining the flexibility to be used in shorter courses as well. Because students come to Intermediate Spanish with disparate levels of language learning experience and proficiency, more challenging grammar receives less focus in the first half of the program, allowing instructors to tailor the program to their course depending on student level.

In short, Academic Search Engines presents a summary view of the new challenges that the Web set to the scientific activity through the most novel and innovative searching services available on the Web. - This is the first approach to analyze search engines exclusively addressed to the research community in an integrative handbook. The novelty, expectation and usefulness of many of these services justify their analysis - This book is not merely a description of the web functionalities of these services; it is a scientific review of the most outstanding characteristics of each platform, discussing their significance to the scholarly communication and research evaluation - This book introduces an original methodology based on a quantitative analysis of the covered data through the extensive use of crawlers and harvesters which allow going in depth into how these engines are working. Beside of this, a detailed descriptive review of their functionalities and a critical discussion about their use for scientific community is displayed
