When talking about women empowerment, their political empowerment is key. This study was carried out to identify the status of political participation of women in Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City, Kaski district, Nepal. The findings presented in this dissertation is based on information collected through scheduled questionnaires with the candidates of the last local election using purposive sampling method of sampling. Also a Key Informant Interview (KII) and Case Study was also done in the process. Social, economic and educational level of respondent along with their challenges in politics has been analyzed collecting information through primary and secondary sources. Lack of educational qualification, intra party discrimination of women, family barrier, and lack of will power seems some of the factors causing underrepresentation in politics despite attractive provision in constitution. From the finding of the study it is suggested that women should be given educational opportunities, freedom from household work, support from partner, strengthening women organization to louder their voice and proper implementation of formulated plan and polices are the some ways that can increase the qualitative and quantitative aspects of women political participation. A school based descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among 240 students in public and private school in Lekhnath Municipality. The socio-economic development is a main thrust of the State. Unless the development is based on inclusive approach, the process of development remains incomplete. For inclusive development, gender development should be taken as a backbone. The goal of gender development in such context is to achieve a social development whereby, both male and female have equal opportunities in all aspects of social life including, education, health, economy, social position, and recognition. In Nepal, the situation is still very far away. The social status of women/girl in Nepal is generally low, a situation attributable to both the general poverty of the country and the gender-biased distribution of power and resources in the family and in society.

Managing solid waste is one of the major challenges in urbanization. A survey conducted in all 58 municipalities of Nepal in 2012 found that the average municipal solid waste generation was 317 grams per capita per day. This translates into 1,435 tons per day or 524,000 tons per year of municipal solid waste generation in Nepal. Many of these technically and financially constrained municipalities are still practicing roadside waste pickup from open piles and open dumping, creating major health risks.

Gender mainstreaming as a concept is about removing disparities between men and women – about equal access to resources, inclusion and participation in the public sphere, representation in government, and empowerment, all with the aim of achieving equal opportunities for men and women in family life, society, administration, politics, and the economy. The challenges of gender mainstreaming in South Asia are huge, especially in the contexts of patriarchal, religious, and caste-based social norms and values. Men’s dominance in politics, administration, and economic activities is distinctly visible. Women have been subservient to the policy preferences of their male counterparts. However, in recent years, more women are participating in politics at the local and national levels, in administration, and in formal economic activities. Have gender equality and equity been ensured in South Asia?
