From the first page on, readers learn that they do not have to struggle with emotional and addictive problems alone- whether the problems are related to low self-esteem, depression, anxiety/panic problems, relationship difficulties, or the gamut of addictive problems. You can learn to recognize who is really driving your emotional bus in the most difficult "traffic" areas of your life. Dr. Henman invites you to sit across from him as if you were actually in a Therapeutic Coaching session. It is an intimate experience rather than an intellectual exercise, as you are encouraged to reflect deeply on Nuggets of Wisdom about the process of change. He has spent the past 30 years in his psychology practice successfully coaching thousands of clients to make desired changes, while helping them build healthy self-esteem and connect with their core spirituality. You can walk with him through key roadblocks that commonly prevent growth, and learn how to relax into making healthy changes in the present, by approaching life with "No-Fault Learning". You can learn how to recognize and change faulty Perceptual Filters that rob you of healthy power and awareness. You can gain the tools and skills necessary to empower your own Inner Coach, as you shift from survival mode into living consciously. With the help of a steering committee of recovering individuals, Dr. Henamn wrote Changing Attitudes in Recovery- A Handbook On Esteem (CAIR) and founded free CAIR Support Groups in 1990. The CAIR Handbook provided the format and structure, which allowed people from a variety of different problem backgrounds to come together and develop healthy self-esteem. The CAIR Handbook supplied the tools and resources for the free support groups. Who's Really Driving Your Bus? shares this material in the format of a Therapeutic Coaching session. As lead singer and extraordinary frontman of SLADE, Noddy Holder was one of the most successful musicians of the '70s and '80s. The epitome of the Glam Rock look and lifestyle, they released anthem after anthem as they mixed pure pop madness with football chant choruses. Seemingly on a mission to corrupt the spelling of a generation, the hits are songs we still hold dear today: MAMA WEER ALL CRAZEE NOW, LOOK WOT YOU DUN, CUM ON FEEL THE NOIZE. . . In a short few years they had 12 top five hits, 6 of them making #1 spot. Their albums also topped the charts and their huge Christmas anthem MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY has entered the top twenty over 7 times. In the '80s Slade made a brilliant revival with even more hits, especially RUN RUN AWAY and the classic MY OH MY. Today Noddy is as loved by the British public as he has ever been and in this hilarious autobiography he will tell us his complete life story, from growing up in the Midlands, to performing in the working men's clubs. The information of their first group, The N'Betweens and the mutation into an unlikely skinhead group, Ambrose Slade. And then, of course, Glam Rock and all the excesses of lifestyle that accompanied the outrageous clothes, not to mention guitarist Dave Hill's incredible hair style.
This book draws upon ethnographic and qualitative research in the United States to demonstrate the means through which long-haul truck drivers navigate work and family tensions in ways that resonate across categories of race, class, gender and religion. It examines how Christianity and constructions of masculinity are significant in the lives of long-haul drivers and how truckers work to construct narratives of their lives as ‘good, moral’ individuals in contrast to competing cultural narratives which suggest images of romantic, rule-free, renegade lives on the open road. Based upon ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, observations of long-haul truckers, and participation in a CDL school, this rich ethnography highlights how Christian trucking opportunities provide avenues through which balance is struck between work and family, masculinity and other identities. Embedded in larger social discourse about the meaning of masculinity and similar to evangelical perspectives such as those of the Promise Keepers, Christian truckers often draw upon older ideas about responsible, breadwinning fatherhood in their discourse about being good “fathers” while on the road. This discourse is in some conflict with the lived experiences of Christian truckers who simultaneously find themselves confronted by more contemporary cultural narratives of “the work-family balance” and expectations of what it means to be a good “worker” or a good “trucker.” The book offers new insight in the field of work and family studies and an extremely relevant voice in the broader contemporary discourse in the United States on the meaning of fatherhood and religion in the 21st century.
Like his college roommate Gary Snyder, Philip Whalen took both poetry and Zen seriously. He became friends with Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and Michael McClure, and played a key role in the explosive poetic revolution of the '50s and '60s. Celebrated for his wisdom and good humor, Whalen transformed the poem for a generation. His writing, taken as a whole, forms a monumental stream of consciousness (or, as Whalen calls it, "continuous nerve movie") of a wild, deeply read, and fiercely independent American—one who refuses to belong, who celebrates and glorifies the small beauties to be found everywhere he looks. This long-awaited Selected Poems is a welcome opportunity to hear his influential voice again.
