AQUI89 is a real-time shipboard Conductivity Temperature Depth profiler (CTD) data acquisition system used at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution to collect, preview and store (log) data from the WHOI/Brown Mark III CTD microprofiler (Brown and Morrison, 1978) on a MicroVAX II computer, running the VAX/VMS operating system, version 5.3. This manual describes AQUI89 version 1.0. AQUI89 is a modification of a system developed for the University of Rhode Island (URI) by Lorne Covington of the Technical Services group at the Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO). The URI system was designed to run on a VAXstation II workstation. AQUI89 is intended to run on a MicroVAX II computer which is basically a subset of the VAXstation II, having less memory and no DEC graphics development unit. The AQUI89 system, as implemented on the MicroVAX II, allows a certain amount of time-shared processing to take place without interfering with the acquisition process. However, we strongly recommend that the MicroVAX II that is to be used for at sea data acquisition be completely dedicated to the acquisition process while data logging is in progress, since there is no adequate means at present to determine exactly how much extra processing can be done without interfering with the acquisition process.
