You know, you could have stopped it anytime you wanted to! Imagine hearing these accusatory words spoken to you by your abuser, your own grandfather. Imagine hearing these words as a thirteen-year-old girl who has just mustered up enough courage to finally end the atrocious sexual abuse you have suffered during the most important developmental years of your life. Imagine the lifetime of guilt and shame, the loss of self, and how these devastating events have impacted your heart, mind, body, and spirit. Here is the haunting yet empowering autobiographical journey through the life of just one of the abused.
His fathers death prompted him to preserve his family memories for his descendents, but the writing quickly grew into a life essay on farm life, Southern cooking, dogs, small-town life in the 1950s, and the demise of our current culture. The book is written in the authors voice and evokes feelings of Sams, Grizzard, and Rooney. He believes our culture is being slowly destroyed from within by small dogs, cats, bad barbecue, kudzu, fat-free ice cream, cell phones, e-mail, the Internet, childproof lids, hard plastic security packaging, iPods, video players in automobiles, kids not being raised right, rudeness, fast food, moms who dont cook, high school graduates who cant read, long-winded preachers, the disappearance of real Southern cooking, and the popularity of instant grits, Diet Pepsi, and unsweetened tea. His familys history is a goldmine of great food, quirky characters, outlandish actions, and bodacious behavior; he has mined it shamelessly and offers no apologies.
Synopsis: Several decades since the last Human War, and the World is almost back at its former glory. The scars of the last War can now only be found in the history books. After two millennia of self destruction, humanity finally managed to unify as a group under the rule of the Six Council. Under its regime, the remaining 156 countries around the world swore an oath to work toward peace and harmony. War becomes a taboo, and any country who breaks this rule will be punished severely. Technology progresses relatively fast in this so-called Utopia. Full dive technology that allows the user to experience a dream like reality known as VR (Virtual Reality) became really popular especially to the gaming industry. A world to escape humanity’s Utopia. Unlike reality who is heavily regulated by the rules and regulations of the Six Council. Virtual Reality becomes a symbol of freedom, far from the shackles that binds the current society. 2064 Human Era, a VRMMO (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online) game, was launched on its Closed BETA test, Hollow Earth Online. With the game under the most popular genres: Action, Fantasy, RPG (Role Playing Game), many people were keen to try and play the game. After all, HEO's predecessor Arcadia Online, a game released by Atlas Inc. several years ago that garnered a few million players around the globe. Unlike Arcadia, HEO’s world is scaled like the world, a virtual reality under a single instance. Just like a typical fantasy rpg, HEO has one thing that reality lacks, “Magic” a phenomena that can’t be explained nor recreated by science. A world where magic exists and you can be whatever you want, or so everyone thought. Several thousand players worldwide received invitations to participate in the three-day Closed Beta Test event. Asriel, a college student, was among those who received an invitation email from Atlas Inc. to partake in the event as a Beta Tester. HEO seemed like just another fantasy VRMMO from a well-known developer, living up to everyone's expectations. However, little did they know, it was actually the prelude to an apocalypse unlike anything humanity had faced in the last two millennia.
Journalist and bestselling author Kristin Ohlson makes an elegantly argued, passionate case for "our great green hope"—a way in which we can not only heal the land but also turn atmospheric carbon into beneficial soil carbon—and potentially reverse global warming. Thousands of years of poor farming and ranching practices—and, especially, modern industrial agriculture—have led to the loss of up to 80 percent of carbon from the world's soils. That carbon is now floating in the atmosphere, and even if we stopped using fossil fuels today, it would continue warming the planet. As the granddaughter of farmers and the daughter of avid gardeners, Ohlson has long had an appreciation for the soil. A chance conversation with a local chef led her to the crossroads of science, farming, food, and environmentalism and the discovery of the only significant way to remove carbon dioxide from the air—an ecological approach that tends not only to plants and animals but also to the vast population of underground microorganisms that fix carbon in the soil. Ohlson introduces the visionaries—scientists, farmers, ranchers, and landscapers—who are figuring out in the lab and on the ground how to build healthy soil, which solves myriad problems: drought, erosion, air and water pollution, and food quality, as well as climate change. Her discoveries and vivid storytelling will revolutionize the way we think about our food, our landscapes, our plants, and our relationship to Earth.

This book, I pray, expresses that the suffering a child endures because of a traumatic childhood does not have to be the determining factor in deciding the outcome of our lives. The kind of life trauma a child or anyone goes through should not, in any way, determine their ability to overcome these traumas and have a productive adult life. It is my belief that with a great Creator, God, and his divine intervention in our lives, we, as his children, will be carried through life’s traumatic experiences. It is my belief that I and all of humankind were created for a great purpose. The writing of this book, or its purpose, is not to gather sympathy, but the opposite, to explain that an individual does not have to allow their childhood or economic environment to set the standard for the rest of their lives. In my childhood, I attempted to subconsciously close myself off, mentally or emotionally, from what was occurring. This denial allowed me a way of surviving through early life. I called out to God, the great Creator, for help and guidance many times. Without the help and the great love of God, these traumas would probably have killed me from the shock. From an early age and throughout my adult life, I’ve had to find ways to deal with my traumatic past. With God and a drifter named Mr. Gabe who showed up at all the right times like a guardian angel who seemed to know a lot about the same God my grandmother talked about, I did survive throughout these traumas and have lived a relatively good life and achieved challenges that could only have been possible with God’s love.
