My Grandpa is the stunning picture book debut from Marta Altés, author of I Am An Artist. A moving and memorable book about the very special relationship between an elderly grandfather and his adoring grandson, this unique look at old age through the eyes of a young bear is big-hearted, poignant and beautifully observed.
This book celebrates the special names that children call their grandparents (some culturally based, some wonderfully made up) and features the unique activities they do together. Full color.
A child imagines being old with Grandaddy and joining him in such activities as playing cards all day, visiting the ocean, and eating bacon on the porch.
What began with a basic curiosity of an adoptee about his biological origins, became a genetic exploration into history when he discovered two of his identifying y-chromosome markers created a rare, but traceable, combination which appeared in supporting data of multiple research papers. This book explores both his documented ancestry and that revealed by his y-DNA. Along the way, everything in his personal history seems to contribute in some way to the results of his research. The most significant element of that personal history is probably his learned inability to allow himself to be defeated by transient intellectual problems, or perceived handicap. In the process of joining him as he searches for his past, you will be exposed to techniques that can assist you in discovering aspect of your own genealogy which you may never have considered. You will also, as he states in the book, be introduced to secret knowledge contained in the Book of Genesis. As part of that knowledge, you will learn why the patriarchs were given lifespans ranging from several hundred to nearly a thousand years. You will learn of a connection between Stonehenge, Britains earthwork hedges, and the Great Pyramids one that does not involve, or invoke, alien astronauts. Many books have garnered the labeled Groundbreaking, but seldom has there been one that is so current as to render the use of any conventional bibliography superfluous. Almost weekly there are new findings in the fields of DNA ancestry, archaeology and the relatively new field of astro-archaeology. Amazingly, they all seem to reinforce the connections and associations revealed here. But you might also discover things about the factual underpinnings of religion which you might not wish to know, or think about. Not the least of which is why there was time when the wisest people believed their Grandpa was a Deity.
Children are curious and attentive to their surroundings. They observe and have questions even though they may not ask! The subject of death of a loved one like grandparents should not be a taboo or a hidden event with mysterious disappearance of the person! Children need to know as much as they can absorb and not more. This book might be a conversation starter to be used in similar situations. It is written and illustrated by a pediatrician with special interest in child development and behavior. All the proceeds of this book will be used to fund Grasp Foundation and its goals! (graspfoundation.org). The foundations website will be available soon, and the e-mail address is [email protected].

Speed makes the teenage bikers feel alive, but they soon find that murder is the fastest way to die A five-mile stretch of arrow-straight road outside Latchford acts like a magnet to beatnik bikers using the road like a drag strip. When one of the bikers is killed in an accident, most people regard it as an inevitable consequence of the kids using drugs and racing bikes for kicks. But the evidence points to the young man_s death being something more sinister than a mere accident and George Gently is drawn into a world populated by disaffected teenagers, with a jazz soundtrack and a background of murder.Praise for Alan Hunter's Gently books:_It is always a pleasure to look forward to another Gently book by Alan Hunter __ Police Review
