Despite its title, this book is much more a "what to" book than a "how to" book. 50 Ways offers "good information served up with good humor & good sense," written in a friendly style The information is about making money, true. But it is really about a lot more in this age of the multi-national corporations, two worker households, & the erosion of good paying jobs in our economy. It is about taking control of one's livelihood. The 50 ideas fall into six general categories: Business Services, Commercial Design Services, Publishing & Print Services, Art & Craft, Personal Services, & Computer Industry Support Services. In each of these, there are some obvious suggestions, & in each there are at least a few novel ideas. Each idea includes information on Products, Markets, necessary Special Skills, & the general type of equipment needed to get started. The "Reference & Resources" section includes tips for selecting hardware & software; a "Computer Self Evaluation" to complete before going shopping; tips for starting a business; an essay on economic & social trends that will create new business opportunities in the next decade; & a list of "200 Business & Career Opportunities for the Future."
