Plan identifies deficiencies, discovers opportunities, and formulates a program for revitalization of the Scottsdale Waterfront Redevelopment Area which straddles the Arizona Canal between 68th Street and about 2,000 feet northeast of the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Camelback Road.
"This Redevelopment Plan provides a description of the current conditions, the vision for future uses, and the tools needed to accomplish this vision for Focus Area North (the redevelopment area). In response to market conditions over time, the redevelopment area will transform to a mixed-use area that combines support for water-dependent commercial uses with a growing neighborhood of residential uses and local retail and services." --Page 9.
Asbury Park began development as a resort area in the late 19th century. While the city enjoyed popularity and prosperity for almost a century afterwards, suburban flight and social unrest, among other factors, contributed to the city's economic decline in the 1970s, a condition that continues to the present. This 1984 plan is for redevelopment of the waterfront area including the entire beachfront, extending four blocks deep to Grand Avenue. This first work product contains an introduction to the study area and objectives; an inventory of existing conditions and plans; special areas like inlets, dunes and fishing areas and an explanation of problems, assets and opportunities.
