Gandrud compiled most of her research findings into 245 volumes, published as the series: Alabama Records. She kept a separate body of research notes in forty-five loose-leaf binders, and those contained information about Alabama's soldiers: those who participated in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and various Indian wars. Roughly in alphabetical order by the last names of the soldiers, the notes generally cataloged the service, pension, residence, family, and descendants of the soldiers or a mixture thereof when the information was available. Many of the files contain only a page or two, usually with a notation about military service and something about Alabama residency. One file, however, is eighty-eight pages long. The material in the file isn't necessarily just about the soldier - it may contain detailed family information on several collateral lines.
