A volume of reports commissioned for the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain's intelligence organisations accordingly. A vast range of international and domestic issues are investigated and analysed in the JIC's reports. Subjects covered in this file include the security and secrecy of planned British military operations; Anglo-French cooperation; predictions of German foreign policy and strategy, including possible invasions of Sweden and the Low Countries; the draft charter for the Inter-Services Security Board; a proposed plan to bomb Soviet oil wells, and the possible reaction of Turkey; a comparison of the military strength of Britain, France, and Italy; the possibility of Italian entry into the war, and the progress of the Norwegian Campaign.
