The Fourth Industrial Revolution, Industry 4.0, is changing the world, and digital transformation technology tools have impacted every walk of life. The nature of work and careers is changing fast – and in the future, the right skills will be prized over academic qualifications. Students must develop various skills, especially technology skills, to become the workforce of the future; the onus of developing these skills falls on educational institutions. The development of innovation and ideation skills in students is a must for them to productively contribute to a future economy. They should have the capability to translate ideas into solutions, products, and systems that are scalable, practically feasible, and adaptable. To prepare students for this digital world, Digital Skill Development for Industry 4.0 contains chapters on developing: Professional skills, cognitive learning Critical thinking skills among modern learners Motivation and student engagement Invoking interest of students Student engagement in e-learning Contextual learning Experimental learning Multidisciplinary learning The book is written for the academic and administrative community of universities and colleges who intend to equip their modern learners with the skills of Industry 4.0. It is also useful as a reference for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as doctoral programs. The book can also serve as a comprehensive reference guide for researchers in the development of tools incorporating new skills and technologies. This is an open access book. Covering both theories and practices in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) teacher development, this book provides up-to-date discussions and recommendations on issues relating to TVET teacher development in the digital age. It caters for the needs of in-service teachers and trainers, as well as TVET leaders who want to upscale their professional learning and development in terms of vision, knowledge, expertise, and industry skills needed in the transition to the digital era. What is particularly useful to TVET teachers/trainers are the proposed competency development framework, competency indicators, and the assessment instrument. Drawing on extensive research regarding TVET teachers’ competency development and today’s industry needs, the proposed framework and indicators can be readily used to inform the self-assessment of one’s professional competency level, so as to plan one’s career trajectory accordingly. Teachers and trainers may also find the exemplary cases of teachers’ professional development from various countries inspiring and motivating. The book also serves as a useful reference for TVET leaders, administrators and teacher trainers. The book's competency framework, indicators, and strategies are an adaptable reference for planning professional development policies, evaluation mechanisms, and programs for teachers.
Vocational education and training (VET) plays a central role in preparing young people for work, developing the skills of adults and responding to the labour-market needs of the economy. Teachers and leaders in VET can have an immediate and positive influence on learners’ skills, employability and career development.
The book discusses the multiple issues of a digital research ethic in its interdisciplinary diversity. Digitization and mediatization alter social behavior and cultural traditions, thereby generating new objects of study and new research questions for the social sciences and humanities. Furthermore, mediatization and digitization increase the data volume and accessibility of (quantitative) research and proliferate methodological opportunities for scientific analyses. Hence, they profoundly affect research practices in multiple ways. While consequences concerning the subjects, objects, and addressees of research in the social sciences and humanities have rarely been reflected upon, this reflection lies at the center of the book.
