Excerpt from Vital Records of New Haven, 1649-1850, Vol. 1 In the execution of its work the Committee has endeavored to secure the utmost accuracy of reproduction in spelling, punctuation and completeness of record, so as to put the reader in complete possession of all that could be gleaned from the original. These volumes are designed to continue the series of Connecticut Vital Records begun by the Connecticut Historical Society with the records of Bolton and Vernon. The series includes, besides this, the Vital Records of Norwich (two volumes) issued in 1913 by the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Connecticut, and the Vital Records Of Woodstock published by The Case, Lockwood and Brainard Company in 1915. It is hoped that other patriotic societies will be moved to carry on the work by publishing the vital records of other Connecticut towns. The State is peculiarly fortunate in the unusual antiquity and completeness of its vital records; con sequently it is eminently desirable that the State itself should assume the task of the preservation and publication of these most valuable and interesting records.
