Anuario dirigido y gestionado por miembros del Área de Filología Inglesa del Departamento de Filología de la Universidad de Almería con el propósito de ofrecer un foro de intercambio de producción científica en campos del conocimiento tan diversos como la lengua inglesa, literatura en lengua inglesa, didáctica del inglés, traducción, inglés para fines específicos y otros igualmente vinculados a los estudios ingleses. Comenzó a publicarse en el año 2001.
Viajes, literatura y pensamiento es una obra de varios autores, nacida de las XVI Jornadas de Filosofía organizadas por el Departamento de Filosofía de la Universidad de Valladolid (octubre de 2007). Las conferencias que tuvieron lugar entonces forman hoy el grueso de este libro. Sus autores son de filiación intelectual diversa, pero a todos ellos une el interés por la literatura de viajes, punto hacia el que convergeun buen número de sus contribuciones científicas.Los viajes proporcionan un caudal inagotable de información. El movimiento que exigen, el desplazamiento a que dan lugar, modifican la percepción del mundo. Quien los emprende, quien prefiere por una vez el movimiento al reposo, no sólo estira los horizontes de su mundo; además los rasga para penetrar en otro. Lo que somos hoy es obra de nuestro incesante deseo de conocer, y ese deseo apenas puede quedar satisfecho si no es mediante el viaje, medio ancestral de conocimiento.El viaje y su literatura son, en definitiva, el hilo conductor, un hilo de Ariadna que nos guía por la historia de nuestra civilización, desde aquel mundo más allá del cual vivían los fabulosos arimaspos e hiperbóreos, hasta el mundo defabulado en el que vivimos hoy.
De un tiempo a esta parte, la literatura relacionada con el mundo de los viajes se ha convertido en foco de atención de numerosos estudios y congresos.En esta ocasión los coordinadores de este libro proponen un nuevo acercamiento a la cuestión desde otra perspectiva; se persigue el análisis del motivo del retorno -en cuanto a la materialización completa del viaje- con sus múltiples ramificaciones.

Silvia Roig explores the narrative of Aurora Bertrana (1892-1974), an unknown writer today, but a successful and recognized female author in Catalonia and Spain during the 20th century. Aurora Bertrana's works are almost never mentioned in manuals of literature. Her rich, intellectual work has not received the attention it deserves, relegated almost to absolute oblivion. The author reviews and studies twenty-four of Bertrana's novels written in Catalan andSpanish, including: Ariatea (1960), El pomell de les violes (MS), L'inefable Philip (MS), La aldea sin hombres (mn.), La madrecita de los cerdos (MS), Entre dos silencis (1958), La ninfa d'argila (1959), Fracàs (1966) and La ciutat dels joves: reportatge fantasia (1971). She studies her work, published and unpublished, from a feminist approach, taking into account the intellectual history of Spain and Catalonia. Bertana's strong commitment to social issues reveals her association with the Modernist and Noucentists trends of her time. Bertrana's novels reveal a unique interest in non-Western cultures and lifestyles and her work undertakes controversial topics and socio-cultural issues, while she observes and draws special attention to the situation of women in different circumstances and cultural geographies. This book is therefore anchored on interpretive and theoretical parameters that intersect with consideration of gender, such as travel-and-gender and war-and-gender. Roig uses the work of feminists such as Simone De Beauvoir, Shulamith Firestone, Jelke Boesten, Margaret and Patrice Higonnet, Michelle Zimbalist Rosaldo and Julia Kristeva to help assess Bertrana's engagement with gender and socio-political issues. This approach is particularly well suited for a writer like Bertrana, a Catalan and Republican intellectual woman forced into self-exile during the Spanish Civil War and the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. The third volume of the collected papers of the ICLA congress "The Many Languages of Comparative Literature" includes contributions that focus on the interplay between concepts of nation, national languages, and individual as well as collective identities. Because all literary communication happens within different kinds of power structures - linguistic, economic, political -, it often results in fascinating forms of hybridity. In the first of four thematic chapters, the papers investigate some of the ways in which discourses can establish modes of thinking, or how discourses are in turn controlled by active linguistic interventions, whether in the context of the patriarchy, war, colonialism, or political factions. The second thematic block is predominantly concerned with hybridity as an aspect of modern cultural identity, and the cultural and linguistic dimensions of domestic life and in society at large. Closely related, a third series of papers focuses on writers and texts analysed from the vantage points of exile and exophony, as well as theoretical contributions to issues of terminology and what it means to talk about transcultural phenomena. Finally, a group of papers sheds light on more overtly violent power structures, mechanisms of exclusion, Totalitarianism, torture, and censorship, but also resistance to these forms of oppression. In addition to these chapters, the volume also collects a number of thematically related group sections from the ICLA congress, preserving their original context.
