The proposed action is to revise existing multiple use direction for the Mt. Hood National Forest portion of the Clackamas Planning Unit (353,779 acres) and 1000 acres of the Willamette National Forest portion of Mt. Jefferson Addition RARE II Area (6101). It does not establish direction for that portion of the Bull of the Woods not recommended for wilderness on the Willamette National Forest which is included within the Clackamas Planning Unit boundary. This area lies within Clackamas, Marion and Jefferson Counties, Oregon. The entire Planning Unit contains the Bull of the Woods (6098), Olallie (6099) and Mt. Jefferson Addition (6101) RARE II areas. The Planning Unit boundary has been extended to include the Willamette's portion of the identified roadless area 6101 and 6098. This statement has been prepared in accordance with interim regulations for the National Forest Management Act of 1976. A number of public issues and management concerns were identified at the beginning of the planning process. These centered around wilderness designation, fish habitat, Olallie Lake, old growth, reforestation, water quality, fire management, timber production, energy development and commercial service facilities at Ripplebrook.
