The dwelling of an individual's mind is a vast, complicated space where no one is all good or bad. Passions become secrets, and secrets become dangerous. When a university student, Jeremy McKneese, has an affair with his accomplished, yet controversial professor, Allison Alcott, it becomes more than a simple love affair. After the professor is found murdered in her home, it is McKneese who takes the lead in the suspect pool. But the murder of the professor is more than the result of an affair, and may have connections in the university, police force, and even involve the prime minister. It's up to McKneese, and those who believe in his innocence, to discover the truth behind the many layers surrounding the professor's death. Politics, lust, jealousy, and betrayal all intertwine in Henry J. Findlay's Twisted Minds. He hopes readers enjoy the overlapping relationships, mystery, and the importance of every detail in problem solving.

Here are Roy V. Spikes’ studies of several variations of historically-recognized pathologies. Twisted Minds is composed of three stylistically original and technically egregious short stories, there are three protagonists which have become stock characters in American literature who are mired in situational kerfuffles. Further, these situations are a much-loved commonplace, classic pieces of Americana. The stories are “Witches Brew,” about a sixteenth-century witch who seduces men into her home and then turns them into pigs; “Prison Break,” a story of a young boy in the late 1930’s who gets sent to juvenile detention for robbery; and “The Dark of Night,” about Jessie, one of those cool, wild biker boys who gets into an accident after which he does not know whether he is alive or dead. The triptych of stories are unrelated but are twined together to dramatize young adult pathologies. The characterizations and plots are utterly realized with an incisive but non-intrusive modernism. Spikes’ voice has the quality of speaking directly into the modern debate without being out of place, without being too common, slyly hooking in the reader into a state of suspended disbelief which the reader will find familiar, lived-in and sensible. This is a groundbreaking work and Roy V. Spikes is a name to watch in American literature’s futurescape.

Some are spiced with erotic scenes, suggested or lived, when relevant to the styles and lives of the characters. Intrigue is part of some when cunning is the way to get selfish results. They all expose human nature in the good and the worst. Enjoy.
