Illustrated with over 200 colour and black and white photographs the book covers all the early years, including the Sports Saloon, the Jomar, the Open Sports, TVR's first true production car the Grantura from 1958, Griffith models with their remarkable 289 cu in Ford V8 motors, the Vixen and Tuscan range of the late 1960s, the M Series models launched in 1972 and finally, the Tasmin range introduced in 1980. This essential reference work for all TVR owners and enthusiasts gives detailed descriptions of all models, full specification sheets, advice and guidance on owning and running a classic TVR and is superbly illustrated with 233 colour and 31 black & white photographs.
For nearly sixty years, TVR produced some of the most thrilling, spine-tingling, hand-built sports cars to emerge from any British motor manufacturer. Yet it was the period between 1981 and 2004, under the management of Peter Wheeler, when the company finally shook off its shed-built roots and proved that it could produce cars that could match anything from Maranello or Stuttgart in terms of performance, but at a fraction of their price. Illustrated with over 300 photographs, TVR - Cars of the Peter Wheeler Era tells the story of the design, development and engineering of some of TVR's fastest, outrageous and most successful cars, from the retro-styled S1, to the racing Tuscan, 1000bhp Speed Twelve and the brutal Sagaris.
From the earliest specials built in the early 1950s by founder Trevor Wilkinson to the latest muscular supercars, TVRs have always stood out from the crowd. TVR: All the Cars provides a model-by-model appreciation of each generation of the Blackpool marque's products, all of which have been test-driven by the author, who is delighted to confirm that a modern Sagaris shares significant DNA with a straight-six Vixen of 1972, although the Sagaris is somewhat nippier. The chronological coverage of each car, usefully peppered with inside information, is complemented by a look at TVR's racing endeavours and an insight into the world of prototypes, pondering the 'might-have-beens'. For would-be TVR owners there is an in-depth look at the practicalities of buying and running a TVR to suit any budget, and an appendix provides historical and practical information about the engines used by TVR over the years. Essential reading for all TVR fans and sport car enthusiasts. In this smartly designed book, by an obsessive TVR enthusiast, each model is described and illustrated, with details of development, evolution and specifications--and along the way the sometimes subtle differences between variants are untangled.

The definitive and “utterly absorbing” biography of America’s first news media baron based on newly released private and business documents (Vanity Fair). William Randolph Hearst, known to his staff as the Chief, was a brilliant business strategist and a man of prodigious appetites. By the 1930s, he controlled the largest publishing empire in the United States, including twenty-eight newspapers, the Cosmopolitan Picture Studio, radio stations, and thirteen magazines. He quickly learned how to use this media stronghold to achieve unprecedented political power. The son of a gold miner, Hearst underwent a public metamorphosis from Harvard dropout to political kingmaker; from outspoken populist to opponent of the New Deal; and from citizen to congressman. In The Chief, David Nasaw presents an intimate portrait of the man famously characterized in the classic film Citizen Kane. With unprecedented access to Hearst’s personal and business papers, Nasaw details Heart’s relationship with his wife Millicent and his romance with Marion Davies; his interactions with Hitler, Mussolini, Churchill, and every American president from Grover Cleveland to Franklin Roosevelt; and his acquaintance with movie giants such as Louis B. Mayer, Jack Warner, and Irving Thalberg. An “absorbing, sympathetic portrait of an American original,” The Chief sheds light on the private life of a very public man (Chicago Tribune).
Within the broad field of oncology is a relatively small but important area of cardiac oncology. The scope of cardiac oncology will increase as we con tinue to develop expertise in the detection and management of cardiac prob we intensify efforts to improve survival in patients who at an lems and as earlier time might have succumbed to advanced disease and a fragile cardio vascular system. With our aging population and the developing complexity of treatment modalities, we now recognize that the cardiovascular system is a target of the adverse effects of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and cancer itself. The goal of this book is to present the scope of modern cardiac oncology as a growing discipline with sophisticated diagnostic testing and treatment modalities. The views of different specialists from different subspecialities are integrated to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, man agement, and complications of cancer of the heart and related conditions. The rapidly growing interest in cardiac oncology has largely been advanced through the ready availability of two-dimensional echocardiography, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, angiocardiography, and other imaging tech niques. This book is divided into four parts. The first appraises cardiac tumors in detail and describes the distribution, pathology, noninvasive and invasive methods for testing, diagnosis, and treatment. The surgical approach to cardiac tumors has been included. It is a major advance that was essentially nonexistent a decade or so ago. Novel surgical approaches have now been successful in many instances.
