Translation practice and workflows have witnessed significant changes during the last decade. New market demands to handle digital content as well as technological advances are leading this transition. The development and integration of machine translation systems have given post-editing practices a reason to be in the context of professional translation services. Translators may still work from a source text, but more often than not they are presented with already translated text involving different degrees of translation automation. This scenario radically changes the cognitive demands of translation. Technological development has inevitably influenced the translation research agenda as well. Cheung, Liu, Moratto, and their contributors examine how corpora can be effectively harnessed to benefit interpreting practice and research in East Asian settings. In comparison to the achievements made in the field of corpus- based translation studies, the use of corpora in interpreting is not comparable in terms of scope, methods, and agenda. One of the predicaments that hampers this line of inquiry is the lack of systematic corpora to document spoken language. This issue is even more pronounced when dealing with East Asian languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, which are typologically different from European languages. As language plays a pivotal role in interpreting research, the use of corpora in interpreting within East Asian contexts has its own distinct characteristics as well as methodological constraints and concerns. However, it also generates new insights and findings that can significantly advance this research field. This volume contains papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Knowledge and Systems Engineering (KSE 2014), which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, during 9–11 October, 2014. The third in a series of international conferences on Integrated Formal Methods, IFM 2002, was held in Turku, Finland, May 15–17, 2002. Turku, situated in the south western corner of the country, is the former capital of Finland. The ? conference was organized jointly by Abo Akademi University and Turku Centre for Computer Science. The theme of IFM 1999 was the integration of state and behavioral based formalisms. For IFM 2000 this was widened to include all aspects pertaining to the integration of formal methods and formal notations. One of the goals of IFM 2002 was to further investigate these themes. Moreover, IFM 2002 explored the relations between formal methods and graphical notations, especially the industrialstandardlanguageforsoftwaredesign,theUni?edModelingLanguage (UML). The themes of IFM 2002 re?ect what we believe is a growing trend in the Formal Methods and Software Engineering research communities. Over the last threedecades,computerscientistshavedevelopedarangeofformalismsfocusing on particular aspects of behavior or analysis, such as sequential program str- tures,concurrentprogramstructures,dataandinformationstructures,temporal reasoning, deductive proof, and model checking.
