This book examines the various quality management systems applied to the construction industry in Hong Kong and other parts of the world. Hong Kong's experience is particularly important because it plays a leading role in construction quality management globally. The text traces the change from quality control (QC) practice in the 1970s and 1980s, to the quality assurance (QA) concept in the 1990s, and finally to the emerging total quality management (TQM) philosophy. All the tools and techniques used in relation to construction quality management are discussed in detail in the 12 chapters.
Hong Kong's impressive skyline and staggering infrastructure bear witness to the success of its construction industry. The aim of this book is to express the nature and significance of this industry. To illustrate how corporate strength, managerial abilities and technical skills play essential roles in the construction of technologically demanding projects, the book also features profiles of eight of Hong Kong's foremost contractors. As the Hong Kong Construction Association celebrates its 75th Anniversary in 1995, this publication is an appropriate tribute to the many contracting companies that have served Hong Kong with distinction.

Abstract: Simon Lee Year 2003 Cohort, MSc(IDM) Title of Dissertation: Adoption of Pre-Cast Elements In the Construction Industry in Hong Kong In The Last Decade: An Analysis of Its Effect on Construction Quality and Programme Abstract for Dissertation Following the worldwide aim to approach sustainable development, the use of pre-cast construction has gain increasing popularity in Hong Kong during the last decade. The aim of this study is to analyse the effect of pre-cast construction to the Time and Quality of construction industry in Hong Kong in the last 10 years. "Green" Architecture and "Green" Construction are said to be the future trend and direction for the Property Development and the Construction industries in Hong Kong. During the last few years, the local Government has made few policy adjustments to encourage "Green" Architecture and "Green" Construction, with these incentives private organisations are observed to be more open towards the acceptance of sustainable development and are progressively approaching "Green." However, this dissertation research is not focusing on sustainable development in Hong Kong as a whole. Sustainable development is a very broad subject of study and may involve many aspects from various specialised fields, such as social, economic and environmental aspects, etc... The adoption of pre-cast construction method is only part of the many ways to approach "Green" within the Construction industry itself. Evidence from literature research has suggested that the use of pre-cast construction has many advantages as compared to the conventional construction method such as the cast in-situ method. The savings of construction time and improvement of building quality are only part of such 1advantages being described. Having noted the above, actual case analysis of completed development project was then being conducted to "test" the appropriate of the findings generated from literature research, and the results would be presented in the dissertation to justify the research findings. After the research on the subject, any recommendations believed to be suitable for the encouragement of pre-cast construction in Hong Kong would be listed for considerations. 2 DOI: 10.5353/th_b3678937 Subjects: Construction industry - China - Hong Kong Construction industry - Quality control - China - Hong Kong
