This book offers insight on the politics of inclusion in Vietnam through a Foucauldian and post-colonial perspective on disability and education. Drawing on a socio-historical analysis of the inclusion of disabled people in Vietnam in the twenty-first century, the book guides readers through a ‘history of the present.’ By reflecting on the treatment of disabled people in Vietnamese social history, the book argues that this journey to inclusion calls for critical reflections on the challenges and possibilities for policies to transform exclusion for disabled people. The book unveils the problematics of social and educational institutions in governing disability and difference through a critical reflection on discourses and power in the global and local juncture, in relation to its engagement with disability in the global South. The intersection between the global politics of disability rights and development and the local politics of inclusion in Vietnam shapes the cultural politics of education. The ways inclusive education is historically constructed, within this socio-historical condition, reflects the challenges of inclusive thought and action for transforming injustice. Going beyond ‘deconstructive politics,’ The Journey to Inclusion argues for a re-positioning of the relationships between the global North and South as an alternative approach to inclusion. It suggests that critical research must construct a politics of engagement with subjugated voices and representations in transnational, national, and local contexts. A reflexive, critical, and inclusive dialogue that engages with Southern knowledge offers a political platform for reframing justice in the twenty-first century.

All students have access to social and general education resources, and schools strive to place students, including those with special needs, in the least restrictive classrooms. However, many instructors lack the training to effectively teach special needs students, despite their presence in mainstream schools and a desire to support them. A study conducted at the Asha Deep Rehabilitation Centre for Divyangjan in Patna explored special education facilities. It examined the center’s history, vision, mission, goals, curriculum, co-curricular activities, life skills training, vocational training, outcomes, and the admission and retention of children. Additionally, the book includes information on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, of 2016, the RPWD Rules of 2017, and the Amendment Rules of 2019, 2020, and 2023, highlighting India's legal rights for the disabled.
Over the last two decades, the implementation of inclusive schooling has increased significantly in European countries and worldwide. According to empirical evidence, one of the most important success factors in implementing inclusive schooling are the attitudes of the actors involved. Previous studies have shown that positive attitudes towards inclusive schooling are not only a condition for success regarding the implementation, but also an important outcome variable of inclusive education. The present study provides empirical insights into the attitudes towards students with learning disabilities and behavioral disorders. A study called ATIS-STEP (Attitudes Towards Inclusive Schooling - Students', TEachers' and Parents' Attitudes) was conducted in the school year 2016/17 in 48 inclusive classrooms in Austria. It is the first study to provide longitudinal data that examines the attitudes of the three different stakeholder groups: students, teachers and parents. Furthermore, the interdependency of the attitudes of the three groups, as well as the influence of previous contact experience on the attitudes are analyzed and discussed. Diversity arising from the mixing of peoples from different cultural backgrounds has long been an issue in nations such as the United States and Australia, and in recent decades, European nations have reached unprecedented levels of cultural diversity due to increased migration. This phenomenon of increasing cultural diversity at the national level sets the context for current social science research on the consequences of diversity for social integration, institutional functioning, and interpersonal relationships.
