Bob Garver, an instrument engineer, has accepted a transfer from an Ohio chemical plant to help start up a large olefins plant in Texas. As he adapts to the new surroundings, the plant begins to experience unusual fires and an explosion. By chance, he sees a shadowy character (the Tin Man) acting suspiciously before and after the first fire. The fire is considered an accident until additional fires and an explosion make it obvious there is an arsonist loose. Bob works alongside Betty Marcum, the woman police lieutenant assigned to the case. Soon a romantic involvement begins to develop. The investigation leads the police to a high-level manager in the company’s head office who has hired the Tin Man in a scheme to make millions. Because he is the only witness, the Tin Man makes several attempts on Garver’s life, with Bob escaping by the skin of his teeth. A final payoff is used to set a trap, but a high-speed motorcycle lets the Tin Man to escape, allowing him to make a final attempt to murder Bob during his wedding to Betty. This action-packed romantic thriller tests Betty’s police skills, Bob’s analytical talent, and puts their romantic relationship to the test.
Why are men so afraid of showing their feelings? What scares men about commitment? Blackboard bestselling author William July II tackles these age-old questions, revealing secrets that every woman wants to know about her man, and every man needs to know about himself. He explains how boys are conditioned to become emotionally closed off, leaving them incapable of sharing their feelings or participating fully in relationships--they are like the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz. Taking a realistic, down-to-earth approach, July goes on to provide a step-by-step program for men who want to change, and for women who want to help the men in their lives overcome the Tin Man syndrome. Reading his words is as comforting as talking to your best friend, as enlightening as listening to a wise teacher. His book will help you to: Recognize a Tin Man Understand the real reasons why a man fears intimacy See through the tactics men use to avoid commitment and relationships Discover a man's biggest worries about relationships Identify the five situations in which even the most emotionally numb man will share his feelings Help a Tin Man change his life At the end of each chapter you'll find thought-provoking questions and self-improvement exercises for both men and women. Understanding the Tin Man is a much-needed voice of reason on the battlefield of the sexes.
Dorothy tries to rescue the Tin Woodman and Scarecrow from the giantess who has changed them into a tin owl and a teddy bear and is using them for playthings.
A YA graphic novel about unlikely friends—a tin man seeking a heart and a high schooler trying to come to terms with the death of her grandmother In Justin Madson’s debut graphic novel, Tin Man, a girl and her brother befriend the titular Tin Man with unexpected results. Solar is in her last year of high school and is reeling from the recent death of her grandmother. She has abandoned her plans for the future and fallen in with a bad crowd. Her little brother, Fenn, doesn't understand why she's changed—she doesn't even want to help him build their rocket in the garage anymore. Campbell is a tin woodsman—a clunky metal man whose sole purpose in life is to chop down trees. He longs for more, however, and decides to seek out a heart, believing that, with one, he will be able to feel things he has never felt before and, therefore, change his life. Equal parts The Iron Giant, The Wizard of Oz, Edward Scissorhands, and Freaks and Geeks, Tin Man is a story about finding friendship in the unlikeliest of places.
"Crafted from sheet metal and scraps into likenesses that include clowns, knights, cowboys, and L. Frank Baum's Tin Woodman of Oz, tin men have both utilitarian and aesthetic purposes. Some serve as sheet-metal shops' trade signs or prove an apprentice's competence. Others are coveted in boutiques, antique stores, and folk art museums."--BOOK JACKET.
