Excerpt from Thirteenth Biennial Report of the North Carolina State Board of Health, 1909-1910 Sec. 5. That section four thousand four hundred and forty-two of said Revisal be amended by adding thereto the following: The executive committee shall meet at such time as the president of the board may deem necessary, and he shall call such meetings through the secretary. Sec. 6. That section four thousand four hundred and forty-four of said Revisal be amended by adding thereto the following Provided, that if the sanitary committee of any county shall fail to elect a county superintendent of health with in two calendar months after the time set in section four thousand four hundred and forty-one of said Revisal for such election, the State Board of Health shall appoint a registered physician of good standing, resident in the said county, who shall serve the remainder of the regular two-year term, and shall fix his compen sation, to be paid by the said county, in proportion to the salaries paid by other counties for the same service, having in view the amount of taxes collected by the said county.
