Middy, as he is affectionately known to us, was born in Statesville and attended city schools. He studied at Davidson College, and, upon graduation, entered Union Theological Seminary, graduating there in 1950. He was ordained by Winchester Presbytery and served church es in West Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia during his forty years' ministry in the Presbyterian Church.
