Excerpt from The Steel Foundry The tremendous increase in the number of electric furnaces in steel foundries since the first edition of this book was written in 1913, and the refinements in electric furnace practice that have resulted, made a revision of this volume advisable. In these nine years, too, much has been added to our knowledge of moulding sands, heat treatment and a great many other phases of foundry practice, which the author has attempted to outline. The work of revision has, of necessity, been done in what little spare time it has been possible to find, and it is the hope of the author that the result will justify the effort expended. Excerpt from The Foundry, Vol. 26: March, 1905 This illuminated the scene around the cu pola, the more remote corners of the shop being lighted by bits of waste burning in shallow tins of oil. The roof of this shop was propped up by pieces of old rails from a convenient railroad and in the smoke, steam and gloom of casting time, these rails were invisible and collisions not unfrequently occurred. It was one of these collisions in which I figured, together with a bull ladle of iron. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
