The permanent collection of the museum includes art works collected by Smith and his wife, Belle, during the late 19th century. The collection includes Japanese armor, lacquerware, and ceramics, Islamic rugs and manuscripts, plaster casts of great sculptures of the world from antiquity to the Renaissance, and 19-century American paintings.
