Not long ago, doctors started a fieldwork in the area of sexology, and there are very few of them who adventure themselves in this field and write about what they know. Among them, only a smaller number choose the delicate subject that Doctor Celso Marzano has chosen. Only after years of clinical work and with confidence on his work and on himself is that he chose to write about this human behavior matter. It's already been written that we, Brazilians, because of the importance that we give to this subject, are sodomites. If we are or not, there is no doubt: we are. The question isn't even if we are more or less than other people. The question is that, in order to be a sodomite, we need to act wisely. And in this book we have an analysis, a guide, not with recipes and hygiene advices, but with a new light upon the secrets of the myth that surrounds anal sex. Being impartial when it comes to delicate issues can challenge creativity and maturity. And reading this book, the reader will observe that the author owns both characteristics. And that's rare among the elite that we have described at the beginning of this preface. Taking responsible information, free of prejudice to those who are interested in the subject is not an easy task. People who are dedicated to sexology know how intensely this matter moves in society. Some religions used anal sex practice as an example of typical sinful human behavior. Feminists dressed it as the ultimate proof of the desire that sexists have for humiliating women. This book studies the subject through the eyes of a constructive and guided sexology, not losing sight that the future will give this practice the destiny that the past wasn't bold enough to foresee. In spite of this future, we have here a study that deserves to be read and analyzed as a new challenge to conquer over prejudices and make people aware of the motivations and consequences of sodomy. Some secrets are meant to be kept. Others, broken. It’s recognizing which that is the hardest… Stephanie Morrison was trapped in a fading marriage. Her love and joy was her son, Benjamin, a boy as beautiful as anything. Her husband had long since lost interest. There was nothing there anymore… and maybe there never was. Stephanie couldn’t explain it, but she’d always felt like she was compromising. Like she was never really into it with him… She’d had urges before… urges for women. But she’d always dismissed them. Stray thoughts… what else could it be? It wasn’t until she met Kelly Carlson that these thoughts barged their way back into her brain again. Kelly was young, beautiful, full of energy. Kelly was Benjamin’s teacher. Stephanie didn’t know why she was so drawn to the young, sexy woman… All she knew was that when she looked into Kelly’s eyes, her heart thundered in her chest, and warmth thrilled between her thighs… She wanted to get to know the young woman better… For Kelly promised pleasures she’d never experienced. But those pleasures would have to remain a secret…

The ghosts that haunt our sexual pleasure were born in the Stone Age. Sex and gender taboos were used by tribes to differentiate themselves from one another. These taboos filtered into the lives of Bronze and Iron Age men and women who lived in city-states and empires. For the early Christians, all sex play was turned into sin, instilled with guilt, and punished severely. With the invention of sin came the construction of women as subordinate beings to men. Despite the birth of romance in the late middle ages, Renaissance churches held inquisitions to seek out and destroy sex sinners, all of whom it saw as heretics. The Age of Reason saw the demise of these inquisitions. But, it was doctors who would take over the roles of priests and ministers as sex became defined by discourses of crime, degeneracy, and sickness. The middle of the 20th century saw these medical and religious teachings challenged for the first time as activists, such as Alfred Kinsey and Margaret Sanger, sought to carve out a place for sexual freedom in society. However, strong opposition to their beliefs and the growing exploitation of sex by the media at the close of the century would ultimately shape 21st century sexual ambivalence. Book Two of this two-part publication traces the history of sex from the Victorian Era to present day. Interspersed with ‘personal hauntings’ from his own life and the lives of friends and relatives, Knowles reveals how historical discourses of sex continue to haunt us today. This book is a page-turner in simple and plain language about ‘how sex got screwed up’ for millennia. For Knowles, if we know the history of sex, we can get over it.

As our knowledge of the change and turmoil of adolescence grows, so the number of issues on which psychotherapeutic techniques can shed light increases: this monograph focuses on one of the most urgent. It provides not only practical insights into dealing with suicidal or potentially suicidal adolescents - with an emphasis on prevention of the problem as early as possible - but also a model of the way in which adolescents may find themselves becoming suicidal. Suicide attempts are rare in childhood; they are generally triggered after puberty by the adolescent's reaction to changes in his newly sexually mature body. It is the body that is perceived as the enemy, and sometimes the death of the body seems the only recourse. The adolescent who actually attempts to kill himself no longer doubts his actions or his solutions on his mental creations. At the time of his decision to kill himself, he is taken over by his need for peace more than by the fact of his own death.
Drawing on the theories of Michel Foucault, Judith Butler, and others who have written on the history of sexuality and the body, Galileo's Pendulum explores how the emergence of the scientific method in the seventeenth century led to a de-emphasis on the body and sexuality. The first half of the book focuses on the historical modeling of the relation between pleasure and knowledge by examining a history of scientific rationality and its relation to the formation of the modern scientist's subjectivity. Relying on Foucault's history of sexuality, the author hypothesizes that Galileo's pendulum, as an extension of mathematics and the body, must have been sexualized by schemes of historical representation to the same extent that such schemes were rationalized by Galileo. The second half of the book explores the problems of scientific methodology and attempts to return the body in an explicit way to scientific practice. Ultimately, Galileo's Pendulum offers a discursive method and praxis for resexualizing the history of Galilean science.
