Theodicy is the attempt to adjust the ways of God to conscience. But to the conscience of God above all. That is the way taken in this book. Its object is not to bring God's ways to the bar either of human reason or human conscience, but rather to the bar where all reason and conscience must go at last, to the standard of a holy God's own account of Himself in Jesus Christ and His Cross.
Heavenly Love comes as a wound that is a gift of God. Francis de Sales’s spiritual masterpiece, Treatise on the Love of God, was originally published in 1616 while he was Bishop of Geneva. This contemporary English edition preserves St. Francis’s gentle prose, his enthusiasm for God, compassion, and good humor. For all spiritual pilgrims seeking comfort and guidance, this book offers the assurance that “a deep and satisfying prayer life is not only possible, but within the reach of anyone who will accept what God is forever offering.”
O divine Wisdom, Lord of heaven and earth, I humbly beg pardon for my audacity in attempting to speak of your perfections, ignorant and sinful as I am. I beg you not to consider the darkness of my mind or the uncleanness of my lips unless it be to take them away with a glance of your eyes and a breath of your mouth. Aeterna Press

The meditations of St. Francis of Sales on the loving nature of God and the Holy Spirit contain abundant spiritual insight - this edition contains all twelve of his books, complete and unabridged with annotations. A superb compendium of thoughts which examine the multi-faceted nature of holiness in the Christian religion, the Treatise on the Love of God is lauded for its immense expressions of emotional and spiritual depth. The supreme will of God, acting in myriad ways, is shown to be the origination of all love on the Earth. The author discusses topics such as God's influence over his creations, the manner in which men often shun or repulse the love of God, and how such love - when accepted - can progress a living soul's fulfillment. Following the lessons of God will result in benevolence, yet such a following requires humbleness: we must concede to God being the source of all that is good, loving and worthy in the universe.
There is no way we will ever be able to fully comprehend all of the riches of the Lord's wealth. For more than a week, I've been pondering about this verse: "This gift has been given to me, who am less than the least of all saints, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable treasures of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8 KJV). Christ's unsearchable, endless, limitless, and mysterious riches are unfathomable, limitless, and mysterious. This is the true beauty of the mysterious. The term "mystery" is one of my favorites because it implies secrecy. It suggests that we have been given the privilege of searching God's heart for revelation. This verse, along with these concepts, has piqued my interest and left me wanting more. Proverbs 25:2 (NIV) It is the glory of God to keep anything hidden, but it is the honor of kings to discover what is hidden. It goes without saying that this secret of the boundless richness of ourselves and what we are alludes to the mystery of the Gospel. Consider the whole extent of the cross's wealth and understanding. Grace will never come to an end. It piques my interest and makes me want to know more. Is it possible for us to truly realize that He is thinking about us? We have been born again (reborn) and have been gifted with every spiritual blessing that Christ has to offer. Consider the splendor of the resurrection-walking with God and doing wonders. These are just a few of the great mysteries of the gospel, and there are many others. You could spend all of eternity studying the beauty, mystery, power, mercy, and majesty of the cross, and still not be able to comprehend everything! It is completely inaccessible! We also have the Mind of Christ with us at all times. That God wishes to share His mysteries, including the secrets of the universe, with us is even more incredible. This is the ultimate goal of closeness and friendship with His Spirit, according to the Bible. In us, we have the Spirit of wisdom and insight who will convey the truths of the Gospel as it is revealed to them. Wow!!
Masterful combination of theological principles and practical application regarding divine love--the subject of Our Lord\'s first and greatest commandment. Based on Scripture, the Fathers, St. Thomas. An acknowledged classic which goes to the heart of our religion.
